A SEEMINGLY un-American fact about America today is that for some groups, much more than others, upward mobility and the American dream are alive and well. It may be taboo to say it, but certain ethnic, religious and national-origin groups are doing strikingly better than Americans overall.
Indian-Americans earn almost double the national figure (roughly $90,000 per year in median household income versus $50,000). Iranian-, Lebanese- and Chinese-Americans are also top-earners. In the last 30 years, Mormons have become leaders of corporate America, holding top positions in many of America’s most recognizable companies. These facts don’t make some groups “better” than others, and material success cannot be equated with a well-lived life. But willful blindness to facts is never a good policy.
Jewish success is the most historically fraught and the most broad-based....

A relentless emphasis on education, industriousness, frugality and a a mutually supporting network of family and community oftentimes leads to financial success.
Whodathunkit?
The study is a bit skewed, because it only compares groups in America. So it’s probably not surprising to see certain immigrant groups doing well, because it’s their high-earning doctors and engineers over here.
Meanwhile, back in the old country are the teeming masses not doing so well - so if you look at these ethnic groups in their TOTALITY .... well, it explains why Nigeria and Lebanon aren’t major world powers, despite their educated immigrants, as a group, doing great in the US.
But I should add, give the Mormons credit, as a group they’re definitely punching above their weight.
The problem is that mainstream culture coming from the school system is all about “self-esteem” based on nothing other than a child’s assistance. Self-esteem comes from achievement.
But the article is totally right in stating that it’s not native intelligence but rather a desire, almost a need to succeed. We have coddled our kids to the point that they don’t even know HOW to succeed anymore (work??? what is that?)
Perhaps they just work harder...
Parental influence is huge, there’s no denying that.
And hard work is probably necessary to some extent for success, just like you can’t build your muscles by lifting only a sheet a paper.
Maybe immigrants are more used to doing hard work than “soft” North Americans.
Hard work and drive make the difference. The fact is that a determined dumb person will out achieve a lazy smart person everytime. But a determined smart person will beat them both.

For the immigrants, it’s a simple answer. The smartest and most ambitious get out of their hell-hole countries.
Our dumbest and laziest, though, are with us forever.
What drives success in America is a unique culture created by northern European whites.
I'm a bit skeptical that Asian Indian-Americans have a $90,000 median household income.
There are roughly 300,000 Asian Indians in the USA on temporary work visas, most of them in mid-level technology jobs.
I can't help but wonder if the income statistics on those two groups have been added together.
A couple more important points.
The best foreign Ph.D students in America come from Western Europe, Japan, Aus-NZ-Canada, and the oil rich Middle East.
Those countries dominate the Ph.D programs at elite American Universities.
Almost all those graduates eventually return to their home countries, where quality of life and pay are almost identical to the USA.
The second tier Ph.D students, mostly at second tier universities, come from China, India, Russia, Eastern Europe, and Iran.
More than 80% of those graduates stay, or try to stay, in the USA.
They earn good paychecks, but relatively few are elite scientists or engineers.
Last point.....
Except for Mormons, the politics of the most “successful” ethnic groups in America are “All Left, All the Time!”
Around September 2012 Pew Research released a study of ethnic voting in the 2008 election.
From memory.....
Asian Indians - 90% Obama
American Jews - 80% Obama
American Muslims - 80% Obama
Chinese Americans - 75% Obama
So the scribblers of this article concluded that “discrimination and prejudice” cause poverty. Tell that to the Jews and the Chinese. Always left out in these discussions is IQ. The facts are: low IQ and lack of initiative cause poverty. Lots of poverty. This stupid article proves once again that liberals are hopeless.
Not at all surprised. I know several Indians, and am married to one :), they ALL work very hard and dont piss away their money on crap! Most own their own businesses as well.
But I can see the next gen of Indian Americans becoming alot more “Americanized” and a LOT more careless with their money.
One thing that really impresses me, they put a LOT of emphasis on Education, and I mean in real subjects math English etc... and are very family oriented... including taking care of elderly parents.
Indians are specifically chosen and trained by American companies to be the ones to take high-paying American engineering jobs via the longstanding fraudulent practices of the H1-B visa program. No mystery there whatsoever.
But all the while experts keep recommending that people chase the greener pasture where there isn’t a family or social network.
Interest free business loans for Indian Americans doesn’t hurt either.
Cubans are overwhelmingly Republicans and stormed the Miami Dade election office when the democrats tried to shut the door and stuff the ballot box to give it to Gore.
Some people work hard, are intelligent, and achieve greatness. Others choose to whine about racism and commit crime and collect welfare.
Pretty sure it’s NOT sitting on your butt collecting welfare, Obama phones, food stamps, etc.
