Mike Huckabee On The War On Women
Political Realities ^ | 01/27/14 | LD Jackson

Posted on 01/27/2014 3:24:25 AM PST by LD Jackson

Mike HuckabeeI am getting around to this Mike Huckabee story late, so let me explain. I did notice this story in my daily news perusal, but I committed a very basic error. I did not follow-up on the story, assuming it was the truth. In reality, what Mike Huckabee said was nothing like what was being reported. Given that the liberals love to twist words and their meaning, I'm not the least surprised.

Most of you will probably remember my support of Mike Huckabee in the 2008 Republican presidential primary. Some of you may disagree with that support and I do not have a problem with that. In my mind, Huckabee is one of the most honest and caring politicians ever to throw his hat in the ring. That he is an excellent bass player is another plus. At any rate, he has a way of saying things that strike to the heart of the issue he is addressing. Such was the case with his comments on the war on women.

First of all, here is what Mike Huckabee was quoted as saying. The headline was taken directly from the Huffington Post.

Mike Huckabee: Democrats Tell Women 'They Cannot Control Their Libido' Without The Government

Human Events has the actual tweet that was sent out by NBC's Kasie Hunt.
Huckabee: Women "helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing them ... birth control because they cannot control their libido"
And now, for the truth about what Mike Huckabee really said. No parts and pieces of quotes, just the entire segment so you can get the idea of what he was talking about.
I think it’s time for Republicans to no longer accept listening to Democrats talk about a ‘War on Women.’  Because the fact is, the Republicans dont’ have a war on women.  They have a war for women – for them to be empowered, to be something other than victims of their gender.

Women I know are outraged that Democrats think that women are nothing more than helpless and hopeless creatures whose only goal in life is to have a government provide for their birth control medication.  Women I know are smart, educated, intelligent, capable of doing anything anyone else can do.

Our party stands for the recognition of the equality of women and the capacity of women.  That’s not a war on them, it’s a war for them.  And if the Democrats want to insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control, because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of government, then so be it. Let’s take that discussion all across America, because women are far more than Democrats have made them to be.  And women across America have to stand up and say, ‘Enough of that nonsense.’”

The only way you could glean the Huffington Post headline and the Kasie Hunt tweet from what Huckabee said was a willful attempt to portray him as an old white man who was trying to women down. In reality, he said nothing of the sort. He was, in fact, taking up for women, describing them as being "far more than Democrats have made them to be".

I have covered the war on women before. It was used extensively by the Obama campaign to demonize Mitt Romney and any other Republican candidate who dared to talk about women's issues. The demonizing of Mitt Romney was nothing short of a pack of lies. The same is true of what the Democrats are trying to do to Mike Huckabee.

I am not trying to drum up support for any possible candidacy he may announce. Instead, I am trying to highlight one simple thing. What Mike Huckabee said was the truth. No matter how much he is misquoted and lied about, what he said is an accurate description of what the Democrats have done, and continue to do, to women. I have said before, there is a real war on women, but it is not being waged by the Republican Party. Instead, it is a group of liberal Democrats who continue to wage a war that portrays good women as something they are not. I agree with Mike Huckabee when he says women are far more than what the Democrats would have us believe.

This whole thing is ridiculous. It’s too bad that the right is even responding to this, giving it validity.

This is just Hitlery et al picking off the potential GOP candidates one a time. First Christie, now Huckabee.

I don’t care for either one of them, but the left sure wants them picked off early. Just waiting for them to zero in on Ted Cruz.

A half-truth, like a half-brick, is much easier to seize and hurl, than the whole truth. There is a sub-species among humanity, that, incapable of grasping a whole truth, snatches readily at the half-truth, and flourishes it about, thinking themselves armed.

But a half-truth, like a half-wit, may do grave damage when bandied about in ignorance, and ignorance there is in abundance. Some from lack of experience, and the rest a large measure willful. Lacking any kind of critical thinking, the logic of thought processes goes often awry, and magical belief is the result. The pointing finger is mistaken for the moon.

No effort is spared to keep the young ignorant. Those who do break out, are astounded to learn how circumscribed their world had been. And dismayed at how few of their cohorts have been able to take down this invisible fence around their minds and sensibilities.

The epiphany that leads to freedom of conscience is a frightening thing, for all that it is liberating.

The more I think about this the more it makes sense that Huckabee pulled this Hooterville stuff as a smoke screen to make us forget something else recently,

Mike Huckabee wants to outlaw the word 'RINO' in the name of GOP unity ( January 15, 2014 )

[Watch] Huckabee Compares Lindsey Graham to Ronald Reagan: Seriously?(January 08, 2014 )

‘Uncle sugar’
‘Women's libidos’

You want a weak argument, go to Huck. It Wouldn't surprise me if he did it on purpose. He still gets the knee-jerk defenders either way.

The key to a successful candidate is knowing where the bear traps are.
The Huckster walked right into this one. No one set him up with a question, he just wandered into the trap on his own.

RE :”The “Huckster” strikes again!”

I never was a fan of his and his comments on this and then backtracking leave me cold. I been poo=pooing the ‘Huck is our hero’ threads here.

I honestly think he created this as a smoke screen because he know the dogs will always follow the dog whistle and forget what he is up to and defend him.

His hero Grahamnesty has played this same trick on immigration before, to get on network TV and play uber immigration hawk, but make really bad arguments in the process just to weaken resistance to amnesty(the opposite).

Intentionally or unintentionally? Is it possible that he sees the Christie crash and burn and has decided that he can be the new moderate "voice of reason" for the 2016 nomination? If so then he'll crash faster than Christie did.

I have said before, there is a real war on women

No there isn't, and anyone who adopts this idiotic meme is too stupid to be allowed out of the house.

I too have also been very critical in the past of the Huckster.

He has a real penchant for lying about his record.

In short, I think he is nothing more than a Christian Socialist, two words, BTW, that should never be put together as they are completely opposite to each in other in reality.

His praising Grahamnesty was telling too.

Chubby liberal good old white boys with that twang.

Both set smoke screens, like Grahamnesty's half hearted complains about Obama

The only war on women is waged by women themselves and the increasing and exceedingly poor choices they make.

Did you happen to read the rest of the post and see why I believe there is a real war on women being waged by the Democrats? I stand by what I wrote. The evidence is plain to see.

I did read it.

I apologize for the poor choice of words. I admire most of your stuff, you are a smart and observant commenter.

I do not believe that “women” are a cohesive and uniform group upon which war, even metaphorical “war”, can be waged. And I am very distressed by the trend by which some on our side answer socialist attacks basically by saying “and so are you”, or, “we love (fill in the blank minority group) even more than you”, or, “we will give (fill in the blank group) even BETTER benefits”.

Again, sorry for the poor choice of words.
