Former RNC Chair Ed Gillespie has little to lose and much to gain from running against Mark Warner in Virginia's Senate race.
..Sure, Warner is an incredibly formidable opponent, certainly as strong as a Democrat in Virginia could possibly be. He has built a reputation as governor, and in the Senate, as a moderate and pragmatist. He is one of the handful of Democrats whom Republicans can go to when trying to forge a compromise, and he is one of the few Democrats equally at ease working across the aisle with Republicans. Virginia is also a very expensive state for advertising; the price tag for a little-known challenger to catch up just on name recognition is formidable, and chipping away at substantial support much higher. But other factors are equally true.

One wonders if this means he only thinks the state will elect RINOs.
That isn't meant as an attack on Gillespie, just wondering.
They have a new rap song “Pump up the RINO”
Well, 54% of the voters in the last gubernatorial race voted for a liberal: either McAuliffe or the fake Libertarian.
We are outnumbered.
If the RNC had helped in the last election we’d be talking about Governor Cuccinelli now. And Obenshain lost by only 800 votes. (And I think there was a very good chance that one was stolen.) That said, the rot has definitely set in for VA.
Gillespie has refused to state his position on amnesty and immigration reform.
Guess we know where he stands - another Rubio.
We had the most conservative three-person ticket I've ever seen, but voters didn't want it.. so much so they even decided to roll the dice on the reprehensible Terry McAuliffe. I've stopped trying to figure out the mentality of voters here, especially those in the occupied zone of nortern Virginia.
Yep.. we are. Not to say a GOPer can't win the Governor's seat, but I stopped fooling myself into thinking we just needed conservatives at the top of the ticket. With Maryland having occupied NOVA, the numbers for conservatives aren't there anymore.
Warner is next to godliness in Virginia, even though he's one of Obama's most loyal supporters. He was among those who propagated Obama's Obamacare lies about "keeping your health plan if you like your health plan," but that doesn't register so much as a blip. They adore Warner... they really do.
Gillespie is an uberRINO and not worthy of my support.
He flat out told Rush on the air years ago “that’s not going to happen” when asked about getting rid of federal government departments like Energy and Education.
He’s a RINO for telling the truth?
Unless you have a filibuster proof Senate and POTUS and strong majorities in the House you aren’t going to get rid of those dept offices.
Gillespie does not believe in those things is the take away I got from the conversation.
Lets ask him the question again as a Senate candidate and see what happens????
I’ve talked to him before when he was RNC chair and G.W.Bush was running for reelection.
I was having trouble with a Republican state lawmaker blocking a bill I wanted to get passed, one which I felt would help Bush in the state elections.
I wasn’t all that nice, and...let’s say...talking loud.
He was really nice and said he would see what he could do to help.
The next day that lawmaker changed his vote and the bill passed.
A couple days later he was asked by the media why he had changed his mind about something he had been blocking for months.
His reply...Maybe I got a call from the President.
That is a 100% true story. BTW...the state was MI.
IMO I would be very happy having Ed Gillespie as my Senator.
You’ve had your experience with him and I’ve had mine...
We’ll just have to disagree on this.
Our country needs to do a 180 and guys like Ed Gillespie won’t get us there.
Policy in Washington, as exemplified by the Ryan-Murray budget deal, is about raising new taxes and cutting spending including spending on military pensions and extended unemployment simultaneously.
Gillespie will participate in more such deals in the future featuring more new taxes and more cuts aimed at dealing with the huge debt and credit rating of the United States.
We need a fundamental reform of government to quickly balance our budget, not these austerity band aids.
On the other hand, Ted Cruz or Rand Paul or Sarah Palin desire to move this country in the direction of less government and more freedom.
“On the other hand, Ted Cruz or Rand Paul or Sarah Palin desire to move this country in the direction of less government and more freedom.”
Do any of those three plan to run for Senate in VA?
If not you may have to settle for someone that does run, or leave that slot on your ballot blank.
