House GOP to gather for retreat (Amnesty Conference is on Thursday)

House Republicans will hear from legendary college football coach Lou Holtz, GOP message maven Frank Luntz, conservative journalists and pollsters and education experts at their annual retreat in Maryland this week.

It’s the first time in their three years in power that Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and his 232 GOP colleagues don’t face a looming budget crisis, and they hope to use the upcoming session - more than 190 members are attending - to put together some long-range plans for the rest of 2014.

The Republican retreat, held at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge, Md., runs Wednesday through Friday this week, and will also feature presentations about immigration reform, “connecting with hardworking Americans,” and “real healthcare reform.” Luntz will give the hour-long presentation about connecting with hardworking Americans. Holtz, who coached Notre Dame football, will give a keynote address Wednesday night.

Every year at almost every company I worked at the tippy top and a few cronies went off to a golfing retreat under the guise of performing corporate governance. The few times I saw the minutes of these “retreats” I was under impressed. They are an excuse to run up large bills paid by others in luxury most of us can’t afford and most of them will not indulge in with their own money. I wouldn’t worry. I asked a fellow employee once what changes he’d expect from such a retreat. He said, “Were their any changes last year?” (No.) “Well, then, same-o, same-o.”

They could use the word ‘work shop’ BUT anyone with a smidgeon of intelligence would call them on that.

At least, Cambridge MD is NOT a garden spot...about midway between DC and Ocean City, what with the cold weather predicted can imagine a lot of time will be spent at the bar.

Shame we have to put out all that money for gyms, office buildings, security in DC plus take care a a District office and have these clowns leave town.

Not like they aren’t loaded up with vacation time...then the screams and “Oh we work so hard” when on occasion they have to ‘work’ late or ‘work’ on a weekend day.

The ONLY thing that goes back to the ‘original plan for Congress’ is the time off to go back home.

Of course the amount of time they get off, one would think they had to take ox carts and stage coaches back to their home district.

I got no problem with any private sector corporation spending their money any way they want. Note that every penny they spend affects their bottom line and is thus seen by the stockholders. These outfits do not force me to pay their mis-spending

I only have a problem with tax payer supported employees indulging in unnecessary spending. Such as IRS employees enjoying a holiday at tax payer expense.

The rino’s don’t need to “retreat’ now, they’ve been retreating for years. Seems they need to spend some quality time self examining why they are there and who put them there. Perhaps a few of them will wake up to the idea that they represent US, not themselves.

They may have a real rude awaking coming at the next election if they fail to realize what they have done to their voting base. It may evaporate very quickly.
