Grammys: Gay marriage takes centre stage
BBC ^ | 1/27/14 | Anthony Zurcher

Posted on 01/27/2014 11:55:27 AM PST by SoFloFreeper

....The 56th Grammy Awards were held last night, and while there were no twerking incidents to stir controversy, a planned marriage ceremony for 34 gay and straight couples officiated by Queen Latifah in the middle of the rap by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis about marriage equality (with a cameo by Madonna) had people talking.

"It was a brave move by the rap duo who are just experiencing their first flush of fame, but it showed the Seattle based duo are serious about using their profile to push a progressive message," writes the New York Post's Hardeep Phull. "It's something that pop stars seldom do for fear of losing fans, but Macklemore & Ryan Lewis showed that they have guts as well as talent.".....

Reaction to the performance wasn't universally positive, however, with criticism coming from several directions.

The conservative Media Research Center's Tim Graham took offense at the social criticism in Macklemore's rap, calling it "a piece of musical agitprop to mock the traditional values of conservative American Christians, Jews, Muslims, and others. Entertainers never want to have a debate, just a series of arrogant 'statements' with no opportunity for a conversation as they flush the Bible on national TV."

Others wondered about the self-consciousness in the lyrics of Macklemore's rap, Same Love.

"For a pro gay song, this sure does feature a lot of Macklemore clarifying that he's straight," tweeted Ronan Farrow.

"a brave move"

Yeah, right, a "brave move" that will garner lavish praise from the media worldwide. A "brave move" would have been for someone to get up there and criticize gay marriage.

Is it really brave and courageous for Hollywood idiots and others in the entertainment business to say they support homosexual marriage? Really? This was really a gut wrenching decision these Hollywood idiots made to support a liberal cause??? How much can they insult our intelligence????

"Gay Wedding at the NFL half-time show next..."

But we've still got Obama in the pre-game show, which is almost as bad.

Where’s a good magnitude 9 San Andreas fault earthquake when you need one?

Man, I so regret quitting TV in our house 12 years ago. I do so wish we could have seen this pivotal historic event.

The average hard working American could give a rats rump about the Grammies. They are not watching and are not the target audience. They are after the hearts and minds of American youth. They are systematically changing the way young people accept homosexual behaviors.

Most of my relatives couldn’t stop praising the show..THAT is why my husband, children and I are the outcasts of the family. Literally makes me sick to my stomach. We are living in the days of darkness, that is for sure.

I’m tired of the “brave” label. There is nothing brave these days with supporting gays — the brave people are those who, for personal reasons, stand against supporting the gay agenda.

"Who watches these shows?"

My sisters and my 94-year-old mother. And my oldest daughter. They are all on-board with all of it.

I just can’t see any guy complaining that if it weren’t for all the gay stuff the Grammys would be awesome. It’s like complaining that a crap sandwich has flies on it. I mean I would take WNBA or the jewelry shopping channel over any of these fruity award shows, if I had to pick.

You are correct. I listened to them over the summer, the morning show, and it was consistently stories on gay stuff and racism, racism and gay stuff... interspersed with racism and gay stuff.

It was inordinately obvious that I wasn't listening to a news program at all but an agenda and nonstop activism. And they take themselves so seriously as "journalists."

That is one reason I really like Jim Parsons. He is a homosexual, but he hasn’t made a big deal. He just goes about his business like anyone else. It’s the “if you don’t think I am a special snowflake, you are a homophobe that I can’t stand.

The gay marriage stuff wasn’t the only thing that rankled conservatives. There was also Katy Perry’s bizarre witch routine, which - even to people who weren’t offended by it - came across almost as some kind of satanic ritual. And Beyoncé also did a slutty, rump-displaying dance that even her parents criticized. I just wonder how much further they can go. Excess seems to be the name of the game. Now that they’ve done gay marriage and quasi-satanic rituals, what’s next?

It's the same at the Seattle Times - gay, gay, gay, race, gay, race, race, gay, gay, gay, race, gay, pretty much everyday.

Wonder what they will do next year to top this?
What will the other award shows be doing?

I saw an article about Kelly Ripa (Kelly & Michael show) and she and her husband vacation with 2 ‘married” guys. There were other photos showing her walking down a NY street with her husband and a guy carrying a purse. Are gays the new accessory now like those little dogs that celebs use to always carry around?
