MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico essentially legalized the country's growing "self-defense" groups Monday, while also announcing that security forces had captured one of the four top leaders of the Knights Templar drug cartel, which the vigilante groups have been fighting for the last year.
The government said it had reached an agreement with vigilante leaders to incorporate the armed civilian groups into old and largely forgotten quasi-military units called the Rural Defense Corps. Vigilante groups estimate their numbers at 20,000 men under arms.
The twin announcements may help the administration of President Enrique Pena Nieto find a way out of an embarrassing situation in the western state of Michoacan, where vigilantes began rising up last February against the Knights Templar reign of terror and extortion after police and troops failed to stop the abuses.

Well better that kind of militia than none.
Still, what they need even more than guns, is gospel. Mexican churches need to get serious about the Lord again. An artifact, a ceremony, a symbol, cannot bestow the blessings of Christ as much as plain constant devotion to Him can. Then people will see that it is wicked to hustle drugs onto the streets to feed escapism, and refuse to lend their hands to that any more. (This is not to blame the drugs, but to blame their misuse.)
May God watch over these men.

The govt should either deport or execute this guy immediately so he can’t be used as a bargaining chip.
I think this was a good move on the part of the Mexican government. Better to legalize them and let them fight the cartels than to fight them and the cartels.
The vigilantes were making the cops look bad.
It was legalize them or try to disarm them and start a revolution.

They have no choice, and I just imagine that all the “white” Hispanics in Mexico City are quietly crapping their pants that it doesn’t spread, because if it does, the “central government” will be gone.

How could it not? They’re vigilantes!
That, too. And for sure, the vigilantes are a lot more motivated than the cops.

I hope that the trend spreads, because it’s really the only way that Mexico can reconstitute itself. Face it, they are coming here in droves for two reasons: 1) They want to escape the violence and 2) Then need a job. If there were no violence, there’s a good chance that there would be jobs, but it isn’t a problem we (or their government for that matter) can solve.
Sadly, we may well be next.
The reason for the vigilantes is that the cops were bad. They were part of the cartels.
Because the vigilantes can take them or their families out at a whim.
Kind of the same thing happened here in the States, when the Tea Party became a national movement, only to be displaced by the Republican Party's pirating of their platform.
