Piers Morgan's Latest Idea: Ban Gun Sales and Ownership For People Under 25
Townhall.com ^ | January 28, 2014 | Katie Pavlich

Posted on 01/28/2014 6:14:09 AM PST by Kaslin

Yesterday during another one of his illogical gun rants, CNN host Piers Morgan suggested that because many mass shootings are carried out by people under 25, that we should ban gun purchases and ownership of guns for everyone under 25.

Given the young ages of most mass/random shooters in America, I'd make it illegal for anyone under 25 to buy a gun of any kind. — Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) January 27, 2014

He also tried to compare owning a gun to renting a car.

It's almost impossible to rent a car under the age of 25 in America - why not regulate guns the same way? Just common sense. — Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) January 27, 2014

First off, I take issue with people like Morgan classifying mass murderers as "gun owners." Second, mass shootings make up a tiny fraction of the overall crime rate and death by gunshot wound rate in America.

For all the attention they receive, mass shootings are not the main source of gun violence. In 2010, according to the FBI, around 8,775 people were murdered with firearms in the United States. Less than 1 percent of those victims were killed in mass shootings.

Third, a major crime study released earlier this month showed that it is nearly impossible to identify mass killers who use a firearm in crimes because their characteristics are those of many in the overall population.

Murderers tend to be male Caucasians with psychological issues, but these characteristics apply to a very large portion of the population.

Finally, comparing the act of renting a car and owning a firearm is absurd and irrelevant, not "common sense." Renting a car isn't a constitutional right. In many states, teenagers are allowed to own a car in their name at the age of 16, not to mention it isn't impossible to rent a car before age 25, it just costs more. There are already laws on the books when it comes to firearms purchases and in many states people can purchase a handgun or rifle at the age of 18, taking full advantage of their Second Amendment rights just as they would take advantage of their right to vote. Other states require a person be 21 before being able to legally purchase a firearm.

According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, 21.8 percent of target shooters in America are under the age of 25. None of those people are mass murderers but instead law abiding citizens exercising their rights in an effort to be responsible for their own safety. The smearing of gun owners, especially young gun owners in America, only further shows Morgan's ignorance on the issue.

The vast majority of these murderous rampagers are pansy-assed big government anti-American leftist Democrats. Should we ban gun ownership by them, Piersey Wiersey?

If they are that irresponsible, then they shouldn’t be allowed to vote, either, Pierce.

The UK has passed all kinds of laws banning handguns, rifles, knives, martial arts weapons, etc., but it does little to prevent violent crimes. Mass shootings are a very small part of violent crime to begin with.

The real issue is ... Why do all these mass shootings seem to occur at malls and schools? [ hint gunfree zones ]

Since he can't overtly call for a ban on young urban black males, this is the best he can do.

Same psychology that lies behind "zero tolerance" school policies - dealing solely with the actual troublemakers invites immediate charges of racism, so they back into into it by punishing everybody.

Piers Morgan is British. He should STFU on matters that involve the United States. His opinion is not wanted.

My first thought as well...
They should wait until they are 25, married, own real property, and have 2 kids.

Just slightly exaggerating...

CNN host Piers Morgan suggested that because many mass shootings are carried out by people under 25, that we should ban gun purchases and ownership of guns for everyone under 25.

Another display of brilliance by Morgan. {snort} Because making it illegal for them to own/possess a firearm will stop youths from using them to break other laws. Rigggghhhhtttt... So Piers - you don't mind if I call you Piers do you? I mean, we've been peering inside that twisted illogical thing you call your mind so much I feel I know you well enough to call you Piers...

So Piers, you really think someone prepared to break a dozen laws or more, including committing murder, will be deterred by having to break another law regarding firearm ownership? What kind of fantasy world do you live in Piers? What time do the unicorns come out and play each day?

See, in my world Piers the evil and insane people who perpetrate crimes such as mass shootings aren't deterred by 10 laws or 20 laws or more. In fact the more notoriety they get the better for many of them.

In my world Piers the 8 or 9 thousand wrongful deaths by firearms each year are a terrible thing. However, those are balanced against the 2.5 million defensive uses of firearms each year. In my world, I realize that without the means to defend themselves (as you Piers suggest and promote) a very high percentage of these incidents would not be stopped. In my world I realize that without firearms we would have tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of additional rapes, murders, and violent attacks carried out.

So, Piers, in your futile attempt to prevent some small fraction of 9 thousand deaths a year, how many tens of thousands of rapes and murders can we put on your tab, your conscious? You do actually care about people right? There is no other agenda here besides public safety, right?

I have long held the belief that there are two, and only two kinds of people who favor and promote "gun control."

In one group there are those who lack the facts about firearms ownership and use in the US. Sane, rational people in this group when presented with the real facts and whole picture -- not the agenda-driven spin from the left and MSM -- generally see the light. It may take some time to fundamentally change their outlook. Once they see it though, they are generally angry at having been lied to and manipulated by the left and MSM to their own peril. Some however, even when presented with the facts remain fervently wed to their beliefs in spite of the facts. These people are a lost cause, woefully, willfully ignorant by their own choosing.

The second group is far more sinister. They know the facts about firearms and they don't care. They also know their history and realize they cannot implement a controlling fascist society as long as their target peasants remain armed and have the means to resist their control. They are taking their cue from numerous dictators and fascists over the past century who first disarmed their targets before imposing their will on them. Oh, and along the way killed over 50 million of their newly disarmed subjects too.

That is it people. If you are pro gun control you are either ignorant of the facts or a fascist. There is no middle ground.

Which causes more harm? The vote or the gun?

Piers has a point....barely. Young males are really less mature than they were even 20 years ago. If he wants consistancy, then make everything consistant:

Voting, age 25.
Military service 25.

Homeownership 25.
Age of sexual consent/marriage 25.

Consumption of alcohol 25.

Gun ownership, etc.

However, I don't agree with the ages, but I do agree everything should be consistant. One thing that really chapped my butt is my soldiers, 17-20 couldn't drink, but had been on 2-3 tours in the 'stan and Iraq, nor could they purchase a handgun for defense when home on leave. I think the best answer is like Heinlein said: Compulsary military service, 3 years, THEN you get citizen rights contained in Consitution.

Can't hack it in the military? Good. Go build a something in the Middle East or Central Asia for 3 years surrounded by people trying to kill you for your beliefs. If you make it back, you are a citizen with all rights granted! (*and these little narcissistic kids today that only care about Idol, Xbox, selfies, twerking, Mylie Cyrus, and JustaBeiber will be alot more appreciative of the US).
