S.F. firefighter sues for defamation in Asiana crash
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | January 27, 2014 | Phillip Matier And Andrew Ross

More fallout from last year's deadly Asiana Airlines crash - this time a legal claim filed by a San Francisco firefighter saying the Fire Department defamed her by "falsely" identifying her to the media as being responsible for killing a 16-year-old survivor.

The claim, filed with the city on behalf of Elyse Duckett, a 25-year department veteran, accused the department of discriminating against her because she is African American and lesbian. Department supervisors' goal, she said, was "to protect the firefighter who was actually responsible for the death of Ye Meng Yuan."

The bitter fruit of affirmative action. She got the job because she was black and lesbian and now after being proven incompetent on the job she can't be fired because she is black and lesbian.

I guess that thing figues that we normal people think only black lesbians can accidently run over 16 year old victims of an air crash.

Well, One can see how running over someone can happen. Smoke, confusion and the excitement. But they saw this poor person standing there.
Dumb

You know, in the good old days, when you ran over somebody, you just apologized for it. Now, you get a lawyer and sue somebody. She’s going to wind up suing the airlines and airport for not keeping people off the runway so she wouldn’t have to run them over. She’ll probably sue the poor girl’s family because the steering wheel on the truck moved when she ran the girl over and now her wrists hurt. What a country.

Well, she can sue. The question is, will the defense attorney be unable to get enough sane people on the jury.

My question: Did another emergency vehicle hit the girl before this woman ran over her, as she claims another vehicle’s camera clearly shows? If so, she has a claim.

Did people here not read the article? It sure seems that way. This woman was actually the second person to drive over the girl, and when she did it the girl was not clearly visible due to being covered with foam at that point. There may be another side to this story, but seems she might have a valid point here.

The article seems to indicate this.

The whole fire department should have been fired. The first fireman walked over to the body, looked at it, performed absolutely not first aid, and had the truck drive around the body ..... really professional their. Maybe the should be provided enhanced professional training to put yellow body flags out so other trucks could drive through the obstacle course.

Yep. However, I offer this caveat: When I first read about the Zimmerman/Martin case back in the early spring of 2012, my impression from what I was reading in the articles at that time was that Zimmerman was a racist zealot that stalked and murdered a poor, defenseless blick child.

It took only two weeks of stories to completely turn me around, mainly because the original stories got some actual facts dead wrong.

I took classes in Mass Causality when I was a EMT so I have a idea what can happen. Its mass confusion. Even departments that drill on this sort of thing can get screwed.
She does have a point. And I feel bad for her regardless of her sexual preferences.

Yep; who knows what happened there. Really sucks that it happened at all. Can’t imagine the chaos, smoke and all that would have been on the scene.

Stuff like that can happen; not a burden I would want to live with if I was the one driving one of the vehicles involved.

Then sue as an aggrieved firefighter not as a African American lesbian.

Also when you are making $196,787 per year as this individual was maybe there should be a higher expectation in job performance.

African American, lesbian firefighter? Only in SF. Poetic justice to see the city sued by one of their treasured class of citizens.
