Getting a plug in the annual State of the Union address is a big deal for lobbyists and activists in Washington. It is a clear public sign that the White House is backing their agenda. But one group would rather President Obama not mention them: advocates of the education reform called Common Core.
Common Core is attempt to create a standard national curriculum for kindergarten through high school. It's an idea whose supporters and detractors cut across party and ideological lines. One of the supporters is Obama, who touted it in his two previous addresses. That appears to have done it more harm than good, though.
"It's imperative that the president not say anything about the Common Core State Standards," Michael Petrilli, executive vice president of the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, told Politico. "For two years running, he's taken credit for the adoption of these standards, which has only fueled critics on the right who see this effort as a way for the federal government to take over control of the schools."
Petrilli added: "If he cares more about the success of this initiative than credit-taking, he will skip over it."

Should that not be “Rotten Core”?
A stealthy takeover being the preferred route.
Better to not talk about fight club so fight club can get more members.
gee!!!What’s the matter guys? afraid of a little daylight shining down on your plans?
the Federal Government already has control over the schools...
“It’s not important that 1+1=3. The important thing is the process you used to arrive at your conclusion.”
Hey, if Common Core is so swell, why not a shout-out?
When they start running for the exits does that mean the anointed one is recognized as having the merde touch?
LOL, looks like the Commie Corps crowd is getting a little cranky.
Most people have never heard of Common Core. The educators want Obama to stay silent. Why? Because they know that stealth is still the best liberal tactic.
Someone please explain what’s bad about common core? I’ve tried looking into it and when I find myself agreeing with teacher’s unions (who hate common core) I think it must not be that bad.
But I see a lot of complaints about it so what am I missing?
My understanding is that it sets standards for teachers to teach the students and raises the bar on passing tests. So unions complain that test scores will drop. Well duh...if we raise standards and we don’t improve our teaching methods the grades will drop.
But what is the downside to this? I’m honestly asking and not trolling or asking for someone to flame me.
Very true. There is some push back being done at the grass roots level. The Missus is involved with that at the local Catholic school level. The Diocese has bought into it at some level (whatever THAT means) and I guarantee 99% of parents are clueless.
More important that you understand Johnny can have two dads who just want Johnny to be happy sleeping in their bed.
Like most cockroaches, Liberals and Fascists are afraid of the light.
Michelle Malkin has been looking in to Common Core...
Google Malkin and Common Core for more articles on the topic.
Common Core Information Links Prominent Catholic scholars --- 132 of them at last count ---co-signed a letter which was delivered to every bishop in the United States, expressing grave concern about Common Core as a threat the Catholic identity of parochial schools, and the Judeo-Christian values which are at the root of Western Civilizations culture and heritage:
Common Core Debate Intensifies Among Catholic Educators (Nat. Cath. Register)
Two groups in Nashville have lead the charge against Common Core either because they are concerned about its questionable (secular) educational standards, or its overall threat to Religious and Constitutional liberties: TN Against Common Core. tnacc.net (Karen Bracken) and TN Eagle Forum tneagleforum.org (Bobbie Patray). On a national level, the whistle-blowers are Heritage Foundation and CATO Institute.
The ObamaCare of Education: You have to pass it to find out whats in it?
TN agreed to accept Common Core Standards in January 2010 before they even had a draft (March 2010), let alone the Final version (June 2010). Here is Common Core Public License -notice protected by copyright. These cannot be altered in any way
Attachment Above- TNFirst to the Top Executive Summary. Notice that the Standards mentioned are Common Core Standards. This Law was signed on January 18, 2010. The Common Core Standards did not come out for approval until June 2010. How did our State Legislature know what they were in January 2010?? How did the State Board of Education know what they were? In addition at the top of page 3, it talks about our State Longitudinal Data System and other areas it can pull from. What will stop them from incorporating more data points, collecting more personal and family information about students and their families, without their parents knowledge or consent?
There are plenty of secular reasons why Common Core standards reflect, not deeper learning and state of the art learning strategies as they claim, but muddled, experimental methodologies, and goals hovering dubiously at the lowest common denominator.

DR. MIKE CARLSON FROM KNOXVILLE NEWS SENTINEL:
COMMON CORE WILL BE USED FOR DATA MINING:
Above I included of Data Tracking from National Education Data Model (NEDM) we are told will be the eventual model in schools. Multiple algorithms with personal information.
NATIONAL SEXUALITY EDUCATION STANDARDS:
Look at bottom of pg. 6 and you will see Common Core State Standards involvement. If you look at who was involved in their makeup, you see Planned Parenthood everywhere, promoting perversion and "preventive health" i.e. abortion, Birth Control Pills, etc.
WHOS BEHIND COMMON CORE:
In my own state, Tennessee, the TN DEPT OF EDUCATION received 3.6 million dollars from Gates, SCORE- Bill Frist/ Jamie Woodson Organization received 1.8 million dollars, and the Fordham Institute was given 6.7 million from Gates and asked to grade Common Core. National PTA received 1 million dollars and Chamber of Commerce has received from Gates to promote Common Core. It is hard to stay objective when you are getting money to promote. Remember Gates spent millions to create Common Core w/ Feds, Partner w/ Pearson who own the Educational Textbooks, and gave 30 million dollars to David Coleman to align SAT w/ Common Core Standards. I included a few articles below.
THE BIG PLAYERS ARE: FEDERAL GOVT, BILL & MELINDA GATES FOUNDATION, ELI BROAD, WALTON FOUNDATION
TWO SHORT VIDEOS by the architects and planners of Common Core:
David Coleman, president of the College Board and creator of the Common Core State Standards, talks to data analysts in a conference in Boston on May 31, 2013. Coleman wrote Common Core Standards and is now at SAT aligning the College Admissions Testing.
Linda Darling Hammond (who was Obama's first choice for Education Secretary and an associate of William Ayers, now acclaimed education expert, formerly Weather Underground terrorist bomber. Hamond was very influential in Common Core Standards and is in charge of one of the 2 National Tests. She is at Smarter Balance, where TN choose to go with the PARCC Tests. This video will show you the mindset of the push for standards.
She really got roasted in the comments following that article.
There were what appeared to be a few leftist plants commenting, but I found most of the comments supportive of Malkin. National Review has been targeted by trolls for some time now.
ping to a “go to” comment for Common Core.
the SOTU speech has already been released.
does anyone have it?
IMHO, the STATE OF THE OBAMANATION IRON CURTAIN SPEECH tonight will include the following:
* An increase in Federal Wage Control regulation of increased redistribution of taxpayer wealth to the least skilled workers under Obamanation minimum wage control.
* Approval of the XL Pipeline if the evil Republicans will approve of, for an unspecified time, unlimited redistribution of taxpayer wealth as authorized by US President Valerie Jarrett.
* An increase in the total number of illegal alien invaders from Mexico that will receive an increased redistribution of taxpayer wealth and full voting rights.
* An increase in the redistribution of taxpayer wealth given away to the least qualified high school student loan candidates.
* An increase in the redistribution of taxpayer wealth to fund Republican-caused cost overruns to the following essential Obamanation Iron Curtain Programs:
****Obamacare re-education camp style advertising to the Obama-Youth;
****IRS Harassment of the evil Republican enemies of Obamanation;
****NSA spy on your neighbor;
****Benghazi Cover Up hush money to victim witnesses;
****purchase of teleprompters for all Democrat 2014 Federal Candidates;
****purchase of hollow point small arms ammunition for non-military Federal Bureaus;
****and increased manufacturing of Obamanation Barrycades.
* An increase in the redistribution of taxpayer wealth to pay for the cost of the Air Force One trips required after completion of this State of the Obamanation Iron Curtain Speech.
BTW, dont be an evil Republican and oppose the inevitable Obamanation Iron Curtain, MOVE FORWARD!
It has allowed RINO Boehner to keep his job as Obamacrat Speaker of the House, and it can also keep the food stamps flowing to more and more of the lost Middle Class.
Do not try to build the American Dream for yourself, embrace the Obamanation Iron Curtain, MOVE FORWARD!
I’ve always said, liberalism exposed is liberalism defeated.
is there any channel that is going to do “pop up” balloons with truth facts to counter obamas speech live?
CC is about control and indoctrination. The left’s minions just need to get their foot in the door then it will be about as radical and destructive as sharia law.
Finally someone explained it where it’s easily understood. I can definitely see that.
As with the implementation of all liberal ideas, it will eventually be recognized that only the intention of improving education will be important. Whether or not education actually improves will be secondary if it is considered at all.
Also, there are undoubtedly schools out there now who are superior to what the liberal program will accomplish. They will necessarily suffer for having their programs modified for the common good.
What is needed at all levels is competition and consequences for not being competitive. But we can't have that; it might hurt someone's feelings.
Excellent list. Thank you for posting it.
