Obamacare: Tom Coburn loses cancer doctor
Politico ^ | 1-28-14 | Tal Kopan

Cancer-stricken Sen. Tom Coburn revealed Tuesday that his health insurance under Obamacare doesn’t cover his oncologist, but said he still is receiving excellent care.

“I’m doing well from a health standpoint, got great docs,” Coburn said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Tuesday when asked about his health. “Fortunately — even though my new coverage won’t cover my specialist — I’m going to have great care and I have a great prognosis.”

The Oklahoma Republican’s spokesman confirmed to POLITICO that since the senator enrolled in his health insurance plan under Obamacare, his coverage has been reduced and he lost coverage for his cancer specialist. Coburn will continue to pay out of his own pocket and see the oncologist, his office said.

Coburn made public in November that he had been diagnosed with a recurrence of prostate cancer. He also had prostate cancer surgery in 2011 and has survived colon cancer and melanoma. He also announced earlier this month he would not serve out his full Senate term, but denied it had to do with his health.

The Oklahoma Republican and physician has been a critic of Obamacare, unveiling on Monday a plan with two other senators to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

His spokesman said Coburn’s struggles with his own doctor illustrate the need for a new policy, saying that...

FTA: His spokesman said Coburn’s struggles with his own doctor illustrate the need for a new policy, saying that not every American has the option to pay out of pocket for care.

“We hope the White House will work with us to make sure Americans who can’t afford to pay out of pocket don’t lose access to life-saving care,” spokesman John Hart said. “As Dr. Coburn’s experience shows, the American people are about to learn they’re going to lose access to not only their doctors and plans, but their specialists and treatments.”

Even as Republican senators suffer from ObamaCare, the GOP won't lift a finger to repeal this monstrosity.

It amazes me to see the lengths people will go to, to play down the problems with Obamacare.

Hey, I chose my doctor because I trusted him, he had a great record, was known to be a leader in his field...

But hey, any doctor will do.

Why does he keep going on this show, or this channel? It doesn’t do anyone any good, except maybe him! Why go hang out with a bunch of baby-killing, homosexual-loving, big-government pushing liberals who do not have Coburn’s grandchildren’s best interest at heart? I am glad he is leaving. I do wish him well with his health.

Such a critic of 0care. He voted against ending the shut down. One of only 18 R’s who did. Great.

“Oklahoma Republican Sen. Tom Coburn criticized Texas’ Sen. Ted Cruz for misleading the American people over Obamacare.

‘To create the impression that we can actually defund Obamacare, when the only thing we control, and barely, is the House of Representatives, is not intellectually honest,’ Coburn said on Thursday’s Morning Joe.”

The GOP voted to repeal it 43 times at least. The Senate won't touch it....Harry Reid is the one who picks and chooses what they vote on. I am not sure what else the GOP can do.

The point was to try, Tom!!

Show us voters there is a difference between the “two parties” (if not the one uniparty). In that, they failed

But hey, any doctor will do.

Most people really don’t care about which doctor they go to. Heck in 44 years, I bet I have been to 50 different doctors and never the same one twice. Men especially don’t care.

"I am not sure what else the GOP can do. "

Storm the Senate, hold pussy Reid for ransom, don't feed him until they pay up, hold requium mass at 11:00 AM 3 days later

Coburn is a hated conservative, not one of the GOPe’s beloved comrades in the Democrat party.

I voted the right way in a purely symbolic fashion when he’s support of Cruz would have been substantive.

Hairy Reid is so rich from payoffs, he doesn't even NEED to carry health insurance.

I don’t necessarily have a problem with your thoughts on that.

You start a chemo regimen and they tell you too bad in the middle of it, and see what you think then. My take on it is that you’ll be quite angry about it. I sure would be.
