Need A Pay Raise - Just Ask President Obama

President Obama

I have watched and followed politics for several years, through more than a few presidents. Heretofore, I have not seen a President who is so willing to bypass Congress and act on his own, as is President Obama. From the time he took the oath of office, he has interjected himself into arenas where he has no business. In the prelude to the State of the Union show yesterday, it was announced he would be signing an Executive Order to force any business who does federal contract work to pay their employees $10.10 per hour, at the minimum. This is a raise of almost $3.00 per hour.

Does President Obama really believe he can force employers to pay what he deems is appropriate wages? I contend that he does. Way back in 2009, he was trying to limit the pay some executives could receive, if their corporation received federal bailout money. As many of you will know, some of these corporations were forced to take federal money, no matter if they wanted it or not. That gave President Obama an opening to control what they could pay their executives. He is now trying to give some Americans a pay raise by signing an Executive Order.

This is not something new for President Obama. He has been telling Congress they should raise the minimum wage for some months now. Never mind the economic impact that would have on many businesses. The $2.85 per hour increase he is mandating in his order amounts to $114.00 per week on a 40-hour work week. If a company has several employees, it doesn't take a mathematician to do the math. Is is really within the power of the Executive Branch to do this? I contend it is not. But never let it be said that President Obama is unwilling to take action. Now that he has his pen and his phone and no longer has to worry about reelection, he will be bypassing Congress at every opportunity.

With the current makeup of Congress, I'm not sure we have a leg to stand on to put a stop to this President's encroachment upon powers that are not his. The Republicans in the House are unwilling to face him down because of how the government shutdown turned out last year. Harry Reid would be certain to back Obama on any play he made. This seems to have effectively neutered the power of the House. And besides, they seem to be more concerned with passing amnesty for illegal immigrants than they are with asserting their rightful authority and place in our government.

President Obama is now doing what he does best. He is going on the road and will, no doubt, be "explaining" to the American people how he is looking out for their best interests. He will be touting equality of income, fairness, etc. This is more of the same garbage he has been saying for five years. Must you even ask why I didn't watch the State of the Union last night? Or why I never watch his speeches live?

All in all, this does not bode well for America. We have a President who is more than willing to act on his own, regardless of the limits placed on his authority by the United States Constitution. We have a Congress who is more than unwilling to stand in his way in any real and meaningful way. This entire debacle is setting a dangerous precedent for how future presidents and Congress interact.

No Republican could ever do what Obama does and get away with it. The media would never allow it.

So why did he showcase "PUNCH PIZZA" guy making more "dough" ($10/hour)???

Barry Obama in his State of the Union show showered praise on a business owner who rewarded his employee with higher income even though the minimum wage in Minnesota is $7.25/hour!! He showcased the owner and the worker for doing exactly what the system is supposed to do without government interference!

What if a bidder on a government contract specifies that he will pay these workers $15.00 and hour, but that it will raise their bid.

Would team-obama go for the lower price or the high wages?

In other words, the money is not coming out of the bidder’s pocket. It’s coming out of ours, of course, as usual with all government “generosity.” Just another new tax by executive order.

I think what the President will do is have the DOD pay the extra funding out of their budget. I don’t think it will affect many people so it is a win-win for the President AGAIN. The Republicans has such an inferior complex that they just can’t fight this president. Well thankfully we only have 3 years left and January 2015 begins the next Presidential election basically so if he does not get things done by November, he is done. He is going to use a lot of Executive Orders which President Bush did too surprisingly. http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/news/orders/

Biden and Boehner look like Norman Rockwell paintings. Some subtle HDR photography?

Bohner talks tough on TV like he is going to stop Obama, while he is working to give him an amnesty bill.

How many workers for a company that has a federal contract make less than $10.10 per hour. I take it to be few.

So, by decree, these people will now make more than my husband, who has an associates degree.....and nullifies/cuts into the pay of people who have clawed & scratched their way to their current pay. Hope they enjoy the raise, because the costs of goods will also rise, thereby, leaving them the same or worse off than before....ugh.

Sadly, large numbers of low-income voters are being Pavlov-trained to expect that the Government can deliver what their employers will not.
