House Republicans are getting ready to surrender: There will be no serious fight over the debt limit.
The most senior figures in the House Republican Conference are privately acknowledging that they will almost certainly have to pass what’s called a clean debt ceiling increase in the next few months, abandoning the central fight that has defined their three-year majority.

Have the democrats ever fought us over the Debt Limit? They seem to say they have never and just voted yes every time. Can anyone give any history on this. Nancy certainly doesn’t seem the type to be walked over so I don’t know.
I would only be surprised if they DIDN’T surrender.

Folks, just remember this when you see your fellow Freepers telling you that they will vote GOP “No matter what” and that “Lesser evil” is needed because “The Dem is worse.”
The time to decide where you stand on the GOP is now. Today. Not in November when the No matter what/Lesser evil idiots are trying to scare you into voting for another liberal.
Plenty of us here on FR have taken an insane amount of crap for our ‘purist’ stance, when in fact, we have adhered to the old 80% philosophy. We understand that many of you don’t want to get into the public screaming matches that follow the lesser evil brigade around.
Stop being silent and HELP US. Your silence allows them to HELP elect more of the people giving us amnesty, HELP strip vets of benefits and HELP destroy what’s left of the country you claim you love. Give them, and by association, their GOP plantation masters no support or encouragement. Rather, tell them loudly and clearly, “Go to Hell”.

This is just another part in the GOP’s revenge against the people who refused to back their chosen one. Doesn’t natter than many did. All must be made to pay. Jarret taught’em that.

but as you point out very well, Bohner came out on TV with all this tough talk about conditions for passing it.
Like his brick wall statement yesterday.
He figures all we want is tough talk.
We are so screwed. There is no one with the balls to stand up and tell the Americans the truth and the Americans are so entrenched with what they can get from government they don’t care.
None of us can agree on anything.
We hate what’s going on but can’t agree on how to stop it.
