Donald Trump: Iím Ready To Run For NY Gov, But I Want Clear Path To GOP Nomination
NY Daily News ^ | January 29, 2014 12:29 PM | Glenn Blain

The drama surrounding Donald Trump's potential campaign for governor appears headed for an extended run—at least until Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino makes a formal announcement about running.

Trump, appearing on an Albany radio station this morning, said he is “ready, willing and able” to run for governor but will not do so if Astorino or anybody else enters the race. Trump also ruled out taking his potential candidacy to the state GOP convention in the spring.

“I really want unity,” said Trump, who is scheduled to address a GOP fundraiser in Buffalo Friday. “I want to go in there right from the beginning and I want to go in swinging right from the beginning. I don’t want to be knocking Rob or knocking anybody else to win a primary.” …

And Carl Paladino as his running mate

This has been here before.

There may be other folks who would like to run....but I see no one better.

He believes in NY, is an astute businessman and owes no one.

Plenty of men/women have run unopposed for different positions. A waste of time and money...

I believe he's a winner if he runs for governor.

Plenty of men/women have run unopposed for different positions.

But how many have demanded a clear path to the nomination as a requirement for their running? He wants a primary but without an opponent, so why bother with a primary? The alternative would be a convention to nominate him, but he doesn't want a convention either. What's next? Eliminate the legislature so he doesn't have to deal with them voting down his agenda?

Trump, appearing on an Albany radio station this morning, said he is “ready, willing and able” to run for governor but will not do so if Astorino or anybody else enters the race.

From one point of view, sounds like a fair deal: He's told us how to keep him out of the race.

But I also wonder: Does he expect to run unopposed by Democrats? What kind of candidate would he be in the general with zero campaign experience? And I guess my third question is rhetorical: Considering he has nothing to lose, and unlike most New Yorkers, he can move if the Democrat wins, is there any limit to his narcissistic ego?

The minimum qualifying question for the GOP Governor nominee should not be "is he better than Mario Jr. Cuomo?"

If that's the baseline, we can just nominate the soon-to-be-out-of-work rearend of a Central Park carriage puller.

Do a little research. In the 2010 Democrat primary Gillibrand ran against Gail Goode. She won with just over 75% of the vote. Link

Trump demands a free ride to the nomination. He isn't will to run if opposed. That is entirely different from the example you gave.

Season 14 of “Celebrity Apprentice” starts filming in a couple months. This fits the standard timing for when Trump always starts making controversial political noises that up his public visibility and TV ratings. Same as it ever was.

If it keeps him from running for President, I’m for it.

So the Republicans hand Trump the nomination. All the Democrats have to do is pull some strings with their media buddies, haves one of the networks tell Trump that they're picking up "Celebrity Apprentice" for the season, Trump immediately drops out of the race, and Cuomo breezes into another term unopposed.

That struck me too.

If Donald wants to run, he can do so. But he needs to compete in a primary or the convention with other candidates.

If the power of his personality/convictions/ideals are compelling, he will win the primary, right?

And the same is true of the general election, if he can convince the people including Democrats, in Democrat leaning New York, to vote for him.

I think it’s great if he wants to run, but, he’s got to get out there and deal with the whole process, as any other politician does.

I recall those fools, Trumps chumps, who were sure that he would keep Obama from a second term with all those great finds from his investigators in 2011, because he told them he would.

Then he says, ‘Well back to my show, see you in 2015 suckers’

This reminds me when I was a kid and had friends stay over and we used to argue which superhero, or monster, could beat the other in an imaginary match.

Trump and Palin are show people. That is what they do, that is what they like to do, that is what they are good at.

Its a stage.

There is a difference however. Trump is bored and has access to tons of money to feed his ego. There is likely not a real GOP candidate so he can jump in.

He is a bone fide New Yorker and might just gin up enough support to win

“...are show people. ...It’s a stage...”

Maybe, but that’s not what I’m asking; my question is, had he been SERIOUS about getting elected, and meant business, do you think we’d be better off or worse? What direction do you think he would have taken the country?

I know it’s idle speculation and doesn’t mean a hill of beans, but out of curiosity...

Asking “What if Trump had been elected President”? is kinda like asking “What if Barney the Dinosaur had starred in Jurassic Park.”

I have trouble seeing President Trump as a realistic scenario.

That said, what could be worse than the Fagola-In-Chief?
