Republicans have a new favorite for 2016 (the Establishment does, we don't)

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who made headlines last week after Democrats jumped on a comment he made about their treatment of women, is the new 2016 favorite of Republican primary voters, according to a new poll out Wednesday.

Huckabee leads the primary field with 16 percent of the vote in Public Policy Polling’s new national poll, up three points from PPP’s poll last month. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is also on the rise: he jumped to second place with 14 percent, up from 10 percent last month.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who was the frontrunner in December with 19 percent of the vote, has fallen to 13 percent this month in the wake of the bridge scandal that has dogged him the past few weeks. But he still ranks third among the possible candidates.

Huckabee’s rise has come, in part, at the expense of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, whose numbers fell from 14 percent last month to 8 percent this month. In PPP’s December poll, Cruz was the favorite among Republican primary voters who identify as “very conservative,” with 23 percent saying they favored him, compared to 14 percent who preferred Huckabee.

Huckster-bee vs. Hill-liar-y in ‘16? Might be time to head for a certain hidden location deep in the mountains of Colorado.

Let’s go with Bob Dole! He’s only 90 this year.

I agree with ya.
I feel quite positive for 2014 but I in no way want like 20 candidates fighting for 2016. I’m from Texas and really like Cruz. I know for a fact with Cruz’s debate skills he’ll win out in 2016.
I wish the has beens and the losers sit out 2016

Anything to prevent a Paul or a Cruz.

It’s a shame the Prez and Vice Prez candidates can’t be from the same State. I’m sure Rand Paul would want to pick his buddy Mitch McConnell, whom he has endorsed for the KY Senate Race, for his running mate. Damn the luck!

Hell yes I’m bitter over is endorsement!

Huckabee would be the conservative vote sapping stalking horse for a RINO type like Christie.

Hard to imagine any sentient conservative falling for Huck.

I promise to actively work against any RINO the party may nominate.

No more McCains or Romneys.

I will vote Libertarian or Constitution party. That’ll make ‘em hurt. The bastards don’t get to just be Democrats in pretty dresses and get my vote or support.

Gawd, I’m tired of this junk. Christie? Huckabee? Bush? PHHHHHTTTT!!!!

There is a plus side to all of this: The “It’s his turn” meme is now completely broken, and someone can freely be chosen. This is the nexus in GOP defeat in the last few decades of running for President: “It’s his turn.”

Bush 1988: It was his turn.

Bush 1992: It was his turn. He was the incumbent. He lost.

Dole 1996: It was his turn. He lost.

Bush 2000: He bucked McCain, who’s turn it was. He won.

Bush 2004: It was his turn. He was the incumbent. He won.

McCain 2008: It was his turn. He lost.

Romney 2012: It was his turn. He lost.

I see a pattern here. When a Pubbie gets the nomination who bucks the “turn,” he wins.

Huckabee....nah...not even close. HE’d not stand a single vote against Hillary.

Have been wondering if the Republicans even want to win the next election.

Mike Lee should be POTUS. I adore Cruz, but dems will say he is not eligible. Heh

I love Ted Cruz, and dearly want him to be president. That being said, he needs more time in office. My eye is on Gov. Scott Walker. Having a former governor is ideal, and from what I know of Walker, he’d do a great job.

I am in it for Mike Lee. He is Presidential in the Reagan vein. I love Cruz, but the dems will all at once declare he is not eligible. Why? Because the GOP overlooked the fact Obama is really, and never was, eligible to be President.

If the GOP wants to win, they must go really bold. A RINO will lose miserably.
