Just read in an article from USA Today which I cannot post here, that the song "Alone Yet Not Alone" has been removed from the Academy Award nomination for best original song.

The "hail Satan" left strikes again. They knew that the other songs could not stand up on their merits. I personally listened to all of the nominations, and it is clear that this song stood out even in that crowd.

If I posted how I really feel about the Hollywood left right now, I would probably get banned and also investigated by the Feds.

All I can say is I am filled with complete disgust. The same town that celebrated and clapped and cheered and cried over their own public display of indecency has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to Christian and conservative films.

I never bootlegged a Hollywood movie because I felt guilty that it would be stealing... it never had anything to do with the stupid FBI warning. I even reported a video rental store in the past for renting bootlegged copies. After this I think my position has "evolved". I no longer have any regard for Hollywood ip rights. I am starting to feel guilty for supporting them at all. I think of these people as no different in any way from the Nazi's. And I don't mean that as hyperbole.

Any discussions on the hypothetical ways people obtain bootleg movies would be very educational.

The academy said that Bruce Broughton, a music branch executive committee member who wrote the song’s music, had emailed members of the branch during the voting period, a rule violation. No new nominee will be named; only four nominees will be eligible for the Oscar.

I knew their had to be a reason. The idiot violated the rules. It is totally Bruce Broughton’s fault.

A couple years ago the Gnutella was pretty popular; BitTorrent was also pretty popular — I don't know if these are still the "top of the line", though.

Was it a codified rule?

How many years must one no longer be in service to be able to do this?

Was it the emailing or the former “status” of the person doing the emailing?

It dared to be about God....

Well the contest and contrast between God and the dark side needs to be pretty stark sometimes before we humans who are getting hard of hearing and dim of sight will notice it.

Here’s my earnest advice: the God folks shouldn’t just take their holy marbles and go home! Sometimes a battle or two has to lose before a war can be won, because lessons need to be learned.

Maybe a better battlefield can be picked, for one thing. For example — take the God songs over to country music. They will get more attention from the “rednecks” than from these “city slicks.” It will sure beat last year’s country picks which seemed to all be about unmarried sexual trysts in pickup trucks on country roads while liquored up at midnight. (I don’t even think I exaggerate much. A critic actually put together a video demonstrating just this!)

But don’t quit trying to infiltrate the city, which needs it better. Just one possibility: God rap. Has anyone written God rap? Here’s a simple principle I have found: heaven can do anything that the world or hell does, and do it better. But heaven can’t be bowdlerized to make the grade. This has to be the same heaven that could cast fire down on the soggy sacrifices of Baal. And gave strength (and refining trials!) to he-men like David. And indeed, created the worlds from nothing. And that moves mountains better than any humanly made earth mover.

I really hope you are being sarcastic, or just caught in a brain fart. You'd apply the same logic to Obamacare, telling the youth of america it is their duty to sign up because it is the law?

No kings before god my friend. Hollywood is garbage, and you'd do God's work by undermining it. If you need to share pirated movies with the less enlightened, you should.

No, the answer is in a different dimension. Let the garbage rot on the vine. Continue to reward the increasingly rarer gems. But also consider the new capabilities, the new media, which a cornucopia of technology has brought us. Want a decent movie? Do it amateurishly if you must, but DO it. And again remember good heaven is not bowdlerized heaven.

PS here’s an example of a NON bowdlerized song (country genre, to be sure) that would do it (closer to) the right way. I wrote it. Please honor its copyright!

COWGIRL RIDE MY BULL

Cowgirl ride my bull!
Yeah, make him buck!
Let’s have more fun
Than out in the sun
On the farm in a pickup truck!
I was made for you
And you were made for me
And this is much, much more than luck;
So cowgirl ride my bull!
Yeah, make him buck!

Gal, you remember when we met
At the farmers market place;
A surprise rain storm made you sopping wet,
But I held you in my embrace;
I had a big horse blanket
And I wrapped you in it tight;
Our providence, we thanked it
And I took you home that night!

Cowgirl ride my bull!
Yeah, make him buck!
Let’s have more fun
Than out in the sun
On the farm in a pickup truck!
I was made for you
And you were made for me
And this is much, much more than luck;
So cowgirl ride my bull!
Yeah, make him buck!

Of course I wasn’t a tom cat
And I respected your honor fair;
But it wasn’t very long that
We joined up in a prayer;
Pastor Jones did the honors
As the assembly stood and cheered —
Wild rice rained down upon us
And it’s still in your hair and my beard!

Cowgirl ride my bull!
Yeah, make him buck!
Let’s have more fun
Than out in the sun
On the farm in a pickup truck!
I was made for you
And you were made for me
And this is much, much more than luck;
So cowgirl ride my bull!
Yeah, make him buck!

[Jammin’ country interlude!]

Cowgirl ride my bull!
Yeah, make him buck!
Let’s have more fun
Than out in the sun
On the farm in a pickup truck!
I was made for you
And you were made for me
And this is much, much more than luck;
So cowgirl ride my bull!
Yeah, make him buck!

God makes the king. Corrupt kings are corrupt because they do not come from God.

And if you don’t know the difference between non-compliance with voluntary tyranny, and theft, you’re no Christian.

Generally, honoring what is right among men (a New Testament exhortation) means honoring copyright.

I see no point in stealing garbage to make a point. What do you have? Garbage! And if something is still non-garbage, then by all means please honor the system of intellectual property by which we still assert, however imperfectly, that “the workman is worth his wages.”

I’d be curious about what rule, but it’s also true that Christians have to do something the world doesn’t on its way to the spotlight — fight Satan. Sometimes it can seem a bit unfair, but it’s God’s rules that are governing. Try again, Christians, seeing what you can learn from this. Maybe someone was a bit soft yet, and needed to get a sin problem better under control of the Holy Spirit. (It does not need to be perfect on this mortal coil, thank the Lord, but it needs to be able to visibly stand up to world temptations.)

“’I’m devastated,’ Mr. Broughton said. He added: ‘I indulged in the simplest grass-roots campaign and it went against me when the song started getting attention. I got taken down by competition that had months of promotion and advertising behind them. I simply asked people to find the song and consider it.’

http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/01/29/academy-rescinds-song-nomination-for-alone-yet-not-alone/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0

There was no specific rule violation. The decision to pull it was specifically because of the “appearance of an unfair advantage,” according to Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the Academy’s president.

They pulled because of an “appearance” of impropriety. The song is up against months of heavy campaigning, wining and dining, schmoozing, but his email gives the “appearance” of undue influence.

Well it does look like the awards’ argument is full of holes if that account is close to accurate. Just who did this grass roots campaign curry favor with? That sounds more merit oriented than, as is pointed out, what usually ensues.

But so what. Don’t give up. This song might not make earthly Academy Awards and so what. It will cheer and inspire millions. It’ll be in heavenly Academy Awards.

And ask God for help to think outside the world’s box. It would be great to stand on that stage and give glory to God... and in fact if God is specifically asked for such an occasion, THEN God might in fact grant it! For His own honor! That’s what grass roots ought to be doing even more than “like”-ing the song.

Heaven has countless songs where that one came from. We haven’t even started to run God’s pen dry here. I suggest getting the applied theology in line, and then the results will follow.

Intellectual property rights are not an extension of natural law. They are based on a agreement of civilized society. They are there to protect ALL parties.

We have a universal selective enforcement of law today. It is not about to happen or in danger of happening. It is happening. There is no longer rule of law.

I am not nor ever have been a left wing shill. If you took two seconds to review my MANY YEARS of posts here, it would be painfully obvious.

Today, we are at an all out war with the Nazi left which WILL torure and murder real conservatives as soon as it thinks it can get away with it.

And people like you and John McCain and the GOP elites will complain about me and other real conservatives and throw slime our way.

You are being like the fools in Germany who let the Nazi’s rise to power while you direct your criticism toward those fighting the Nazi’s more than the Nazi’s.

If you want to make a case for protecting the ip rights of people like Larry Flynt and the equivalent Hollywood trash, then go ahead. Make your case on reason. But if you have any sense at all you will direct your vitriol at the real left that are destroying the nation instead of me or other conservatives.

Maybe you are right about respecting the ip rights of Hollywood. But calling me names isn’t going to convince anyone.

The left has systematically purged EVERY CONSERVATIVE possible from our courts, our schools, our legislature, our military leadership, and from the entertainment business. This is a an organized criminal enterprise made up of people who should be imprisoned or executed. But you will attack me and call me left wing because I am tired of taking it and want to fight back.

There is no rule of law any more. When they come to take you and your family to the FEMA camps, are you going to turn in people like me for saying what these people deserve? Are you going to argue about the rule of law or polite politics with me while they rape and murder your family?

(Another HTRN special below. Please don’t pirate it [yeah, don’t jeer at me for that... if you want to use it for any God-honoring purpose that’s fine])

OUTLAW

Outlaw!
Yeah, I’m God’s outlaw!
It’s the end of the world’s trail for me!
‘Cause Jesus ransomed my soul!
Yeah, He made me whole!
From the law that killed He made me free!
And now I get a reward
From my eternal Lord
For living as He bought me to be!

Oh listen up pardners, what a wonderful job
The Lord did on Calvary’s tree!
And now that we’re His, our hearts really throb
For His Spirit, so wild and so free!
And now there’s no flaming arrow the enemy lobs
But our shield puts it out handsomely!

Oh listen up pardners, the Lord is no wimp
To languish on down pillows so fine;
When the Boss’s call comes, your heart will skip
And you’ll be right there for Him on the line;
It’s a real powerful thing, His heavenly gift,
And it will never wear out with time!

Oh listen up pardners, let’s praise Him forever,
The One who made heaven and earth;
He’s the One who clothed Adam and Eve in leather
And the One who now gives us new birth!
No tornado or hurricane or any such weather
Will keep us from putting Him first!

[Repeat and fade:]
Outlaw!
Yeah I’m God’s outlaw!

The same God that made the evil Pharoah of Exodus infamy, Pharoah.

The sooner we respect the post (even if it could mean deposing the man who occupies it by every proper means) the better we do in God’s plan. As for Moses his cry was “Let my people go” not “get off that throne.” And Jesus told us that we were free to go and we should always honor God. If you honor the king it is for God’s sake only. It’s a different point of view! This is not rebelling for rebelling’s sake. It’s rebelling against the world when God says go the opposite way.

Actually a thread was posted a few days back where the homosexuals in Hollywood were in a snit about the ‘Christian’ song nomination. They never mentioned any rule violation. They mentioned the film and its song were somehow not up to what was expected.

Now they found a ‘rule’ to do their dirty work.

Thanks for a lot of great comments.

After cooling down a bit from when I first heard this news, I think I have to agree with your take.

Copyright and patent protection are an extension of the representative government we have been blessed to have and are not an extension of natural law. Natural law protects the ownership of the crop a person plants and harvests but not of an idea, not of the pattern of ink on paper or the one’s and zero’s in a digital file. It is not illegal to copy movies in a nation that is not signatory to a treaty protecting these “rights”.

If I were Congress, I would exercise my Constitutional authority to remove ip protection from anything prurient, obscene or with gratuitous violence and profanity. If Hollywood wants to exercise its freedom of speech, they should do it for free.

Men like Larry Flynt would never have become icons or be among the rich and famous if the laws did not provide him this protection which has not followed the Constitutional guideline of “to promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts”.

But, like you said, there is no value in downloading trash. If something is worth watching it is worth paying for.

My current frame of mind though would not make me the kind of juror a lawyer representing Hollywood studios would want on the jury. When these people make it impossible for Christians and conservatives to make a living in their industry, should they really enjoy the protection of ip law? To me it is about as moral as Muslims forcing infidels to pay a special tax that Muslims do not have to pay. Should Christians submit to such unjust laws?

I think a meritocracy approach will work just fine in a “We The People” government where “We The People” also willingly exalt God. When we exalt God, God exalts us too.

We can’t impose top down godliness, ironic as that sounds. And the example of selective intellectual property would be just one such attempt. Let the filthy pay for filth if they cannot be persuaded otherwise. Jesus came as a poor servant for a reason. He requests to be enthroned in the lowly heart. Then He will make His way into the castles of kings from there.

Let’s forget what’s “moral.” Does something exalt God, even in a pro forma way? Then do it. Does it come short of God’s glory by purpose? Then shun it. (Things can come short because that’s the best we can muster under the circumstances. That’s a different situation. That is not intentionally sinning. It is covered by God’s grace. And in fact it’s endemic until we get through the pearly gates.)

God made His kingdom simple to live to. It has to be if children can enter! It’s “grown ups” who try to cobble it up with complications.

I generally agree that we cannot pass laws that will make people become righteous. But I do not think the founders ever envisioned that clause in the Constitution to afford protection to pornography. I do not even think they considered it free speech. Up until Clinton, the attorney general enforced obscenity laws. A lot of porn today that even children can easily stumble across online would have landed people in jail for producing a few decades ago.

There should be no ip protection for this. There should be no protection for abortion “doctors” killing babies. There should be no protection for homosexual sex acts. Yet you are right that changing the laws will not change people. I think it has come to the point that the church is no longer the dominant influence in society, so the new imperative is to keep society from influencing the church.

Copyright is a serious issue. Don’t make the case here for abusing it.

Well, there were morality laws in the past, but they never tried to tamper with copyright and patent etc. That is actually a sign of desperation.

Yeah. After venting I have to admit it is not a solution. Ip laws could be improved, but they are more evenly enforced in the courts than many other laws. I am not sure what the answer is, but I have lower than usual regard for Hollywood this evening.

So my position that honoring IP laws that protect Hollywood movies from being ripped, means that I support totalitarians raping and murdering families?

You’ve lost your marbles.
