Bristol Palin's sexist, hypocritical, very bad Wendy Davis rant (1st class Pretzel Logic)
The Los Angeles Times' The Takeaway ^ | January 30, 2014 | Robin Abcarian

Posted on 01/30/2014 9:09:02 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Wendy Davis, the long shot Democratic candidate for Texas governor, deserves all the scrutiny she is getting for blurring some facts in her compelling life story. When she got divorced, how long she lived as a single mother in a trailer, whether she was remarried and financially comfortable when she went off to Harvard Law School are not minor points in a narrative built on overcoming hardship.

Politicians, whatever their party, must be held to the highest standard of truth, so it’s entirely fair to rap her for overstating the adverse conditions of her life in order to make her climb to success sound more dramatic.

But when someone like 24-year-old Bristol Palin gets on her high horse to accuse Davis of abandoning her children while she pursued a law degree at Harvard, I have to laugh. Palin, who has ridden her mother’s coattails to fame, God bless her, simply must be called out.

The eldest daughter of the former Alaska governor has flippantly inserted herself into an important conversation about women and children and careers. Unfortunately, she offers nothing useful or thoughtful:

Turns out, [Davis] lied about much of her ‘pulling herself up by her own bootstraps’ story. Actually, she found a man to marry her, pay her way through college, and then through Harvard Law School. The day after he paid the last bill, she left him. By the way, she left her kids too. She said, 'it’s not a good time for me right now' to be a parent.

Is everyone paying attention? This woman is the hero of the Left? A woman whose ambition and ego were so big she couldn’t have both a career and kids at the same time. Gosh, children are sooo inconvenient, huh?(continued)

I wonder how they explain their racism towards this young Eskimo lass and her father?

I don’t think she’s ugly—and I agree with her point here.

Todd was away weeks at a time when Sarah was pulling down a governor’s salary. I don’t think it particularly different to judge Davis on being away for chunks of time to get through Harvard Law. Except, of course, it was for Harvard Law, not time on the slope.

Bristol should have stayed out of it.

Leftwingers really do hate those who leave their plantation.

Palin, Cruz, West...how dare they hold Conservative views/s

Love that Sarah Palin’s daughters live rent free in leftwingers heads.

She has every right to run down abortion Barbie. The women is slime in heels. The more she talks the lower her ratings and the more likely she loses hands down.

What Bristol said is absolutely right. Nothing precluded her from going to a local law school or actually staying faithful to the man paying her rent, but being a sleaze is the calling for most democRATS.

I got a call from EWTN (the catholic cable channel) about that bogus medicine for nuns suggested in the Lancet and by Potts, and was able to sprinkle some pharmaceutical common sense on the issue.
The premise was that medicating nuns with hormones throughout their lives could protect them from increased incidence of breast cancer and endometrial cancer.
The problem is that, as admitted by these so called researchers, nuns don’t exhibit increased incidence of these problems (compared to other women) until their 70s and 80s. The pill does not protect against breast cancer. In fact there’s a fresh new study out in the Indian J. of Cancer touting the opposite.

Taking birth control for many decades, and risking all of the side effects of those pills, including hypertension, thrombotic events, metabolic disorders, etc, to Slightly lessen diseases which don’t show up until very old age, would be nonsensical.
(Think of these kinds of considerations each time the doc wants to throw another pill at you for “Prevention”.)

The huge change in the recommendations for hormone replacement therapy in post menopausal women was because the observed risk vs benefit of the drugs did not justify their use to prevent diseases. Potts writes as though he is frozen in time for the last 15 years and has not heard of such a thing which even made big news in the mainstream press.

Some of the “advances” in reproductive medicine in the developing world are very scary, such as dispensing misoprostil to women for home abortions. This is not a “one size fits all” kind of drug, if one has any concern for such hazards as uterine rupture. One wonders if Potts has had his celebrity hands in this debacle too.

I might not be allowed to link my personal blog here, but if you google “down on the pharm” then search in the blog for “nuns birth control” you can find a couple more links.

Wendy Davis should be faulted for her political positions and her shading of the truth.

As her daughters explained, however, they originally moved with her to MA, but one had a health issue causing them to return to return to TX. Harvard Law is an incredibly rare opportunity that most families would happily have worked around to let her attend. Sounds like they did something actually fairly similar to Todd Palin’s working in the oil fields, though working in the oil fields wasn’t a particularly rare opportunity.

It was IMO stupid and counterproductive for Bristol, of all people, to attack her with what sounded like petty and whiny jealousy.

Bristol should have stayed out of it.

Are you kidding? Bristol's comments were brilliant, probably coordinated by Sarah herself.

The first rule of thumb for running for office, is that you don't respond to columnists, bloggers and private citizens. All you do is elevate them while at the same time exposing your pettiness and temperament for office.

That's why these columnists are now attacking Bristol - but they're not attacking her per se. They're reminding Wendy to let us do the dirty work and you just focus on turning Texas blue.

If it was Sarah’s idea, it wasn’t her best. Just like when she thought Bristol should make a speaking career of telling girls not to get pregnant like she did.

Simply the wrong stuff to attack Davis on—and especially the wrong one to lecture on it.

When she walked out on her children, it was just a very late term abortion.

As Obummer said no woman should be punished with a child.

You keep leaving out one teeny little part, actually two. Todd didn't abandon his family and wasn't ordered by a judge to stay away from drugs and alcohol. She used her husband to get her through school and now she's using her daughters to get her out of the hole she dug for herself.

I am absolutely no fan of Wendy Davis.

I just think what Bristol went after her for was inappropriate—especially coming from Bristol and with that whining tone.

Your conjectures and opinions are more validated than Bristol's because...?

You were an unwed mother too? You weren't an unwed mother?

Long-term FR lurking provided more wisdom to you than Bristol Palin gained from her life experiences because...?

You will begin to employ rational conservative thinking in your FR posts in the year: two thousand...what?
