Republicans rate Sarah Palin higher than every potential 2016 presidential contender, even though she is not even considered to be in the running, a new poll has found.

A Public Policy Polling survey conducted Jan. 23-26 showed that the former governor of Alaska has a 70 percent favorability rating among GOP primary voters, topping six other potential candidates in the poll, even though her name was not on the list of 2016 GOP candidates to choose from.

"The best-liked person we tested on this poll with Republican primary voters is actually Sarah Palin," the poll noted.

In the survey of 845 registered voters, including 457 Republican primary voters, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee tops the list of possible presidential contenders, with a favorability rating of 64 percent. Fifty-eight percent of respondents have a positive view of both Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, the former 2012 vice presidential nominee.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has a 56 percent favorability rating, and 45 percent of respondents view Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in a positive light. Embattled New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie comes in last with a 40 percent favorability rating....

“Scott has blown every RAT economic policy so far to smithereens that there is no excuse for all the 50 not to adopt and execute his success model.”

He has taken and continues to take withering fire from the RATs, and he isn’t always knocking down chairs and reporters to get in front of a TV camera. He is what a good executive exemplifies. He is quietly competent, and that’s the highest praise we can give him. He would make a fine president.

I don’t know if Walker is pro-amnesty, really, but I do know what he did in Wisconsin can be replicated across all 50 states with success. If the country went Wisconsin, we REALLY would not need the fed for anything but the three or four charges outlined in the Constitution.

Any freeper shooting down a guy who literally carved in stone what conservative principles can accomplish in a State govt. needs to be somewhere else.

The Colonel is negative because the pen is mightier than the sword. It appears that our media is 90% slanted in the favor of the left. Its so far left these days I have to go to Pravda to get to the right. They will paint Palin as a dumb wacko, which is what they have been doing since day one. They can’t have her in the position of going against their favorite candidate because Palin is younger, far more attractive, more vibrant and represents the values of the mid 50’s. We can’t have any of that today, we are in the age if Idiocracy where everything that was wrong in the 50’s is now right and everything that was right is now wrong. Palin would be better for this country than a dozen Beeches of Benghazi. I saw her here in FLA in 2008, I saw the crowds, it was obvious she was the real candidate, not McClain. I lived in NY in 2000, and I was there when they elected the do nothing fake senator from Arkansas with all the hype and myth. Why, because 90% of the MSM were behind her. Bused in crowds, cropped videos, changing booos to cheers, all to promote the fake senator. They will never allow Palin to interfere with the coronation of their Queen. I see a difference, one loves her country and wants to make it great, the other wants her country to make her great. Its unfortunate we will probably end up with the later.

I might be wrong, but as I remember, they were ahead in the polls until the stock market dropped around 4000 points. That’s when Obama surpassed them. Bottom line, she was a fantastic Governor up here in Alaska the short time she served; that’s how I judge her.

McCain is a complete stooge, but he'd even be better than Big Ears. My neighbor was in the Riverines in 68 through 69. He actually knows some other Hanoi Hilton members. You should hear what they have said about McCain; unbelievable. Neighbor is 66 years old, he just gets too upset talking about such things.

I still favor Palin, she'll never change her perspective & love of Country, and most importantly is that she is the most honest political out there. I watched her come up in early 90's here in Alaska, she is for real forever. I think chances come up once in a lifetime for some people. The left freaks at the thought of Palin; they will never permit her to run again.

If they both run for the top spot then they’ll have to destroy each other in the primaries.

Personally I don’t think either will run. I think Cruz will serve more time in
the senate before he makes an attempt. I think Palin may consider it but she has a
great life situation now without all the hassle of a campaign.

” I think chances come up once in a lifetime for some people. “

I believe that you are right (with the possible exception of the “it’s my turn” old guard GOPe like Dole, McLame, Romney, etc.) and since Sarah isn’t in that group, my guess is that she will have a very difficult time going for a nation-wide public office again. Although I could see her running for the Senate from AK and winning, but she seems to have no interest in so doing. Since her paring with McLame, a whole new crop of Conservatives have surfaced ( i.e. Cruz, Paul, Lee and a very few others). They are now the “fresh face” that Palin was six years ago. Palin, by virtue of her loss as McLame’s running mate makes her a looser in the eyes of too many voters despite her qualifications and the fact that she continues to be the “darling” of a lot of people on the Right. And because she’s run and lost, I don’t see any of the New Right potential candidates selecting her as their running mate because the press would tar and feather that team because of her.

I agree that Palin isn't going to run. I think she sees herself as a conservative conscious and king-maker rather than a candidate. Besides, if she runs then the media will tear her apart and why would she want to go through that again?

Cruz, on the other hand, will run. I think he's already running. He's a man in a hurry, not willing to sit on the sidelines for 8 years if the Republicans win in 2016. He's also not the kind of guy to sit and watch another Romney-like candidate get the nomination. He doesn't believe that there is a better, smarter, more conservative candidate than he is. He's in.

Palin could jump in this summer and still beat the pants off any Repub in primary and then Begich come Fall. I don’t think she wants to, she gets all the attention she needs for the past record she has built for herself. Why would she want all the pain when she can be out enjoying Alaska. No joke, we live along the Yukon, pretty remote. I wouldn’t trade my lifestyle for anything, no joke; life is good and I’m sure it is for Palin too. I’d like her to run for Pres, Senate, Governor again, anything; that’s how good she was as Mayor and Governor up here.

Education

Cruz attended high school at Faith West Academy in Katy, Texas,[26] and later graduated from Second Baptist High School in Houston as valedictorian in 1988.[11] During high school, Cruz participated in a Houston-based group called the Free Market Education Foundation where Cruz learned about free-market economic philosophers such as Milton Friedman, Friedrich Hayek, Frédéric Bastiat and Ludwig von Mises.[20] The program was run by Rolland Storey and Cruz entered the program at the age of 13.[18]

Cruz graduated cum laude from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs in 1992.[2][5] While at Princeton, he competed for the American Whig-Cliosophic Society’s Debate Panel and won the top speaker award at both the 1992 U.S. National Debating Championship and the 1992 North American Debating Championship.[27] In 1992, he was named U.S. National Speaker of the Year and Team of the Year (with his debate partner, David Panton).[27] Cruz was also a semi-finalist at the 1995 World Universities Debating Championship, making him Princeton’s highest-ranked debater at the championship.[28][29] Princeton’s debate team later named their annual novice championship after Cruz.[28]

Cruz’s senior thesis on the separation of powers, titled “Clipping the Wings of Angels,” draws its inspiration from a passage attributed to President James Madison: “If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary.” Cruz argued that the drafters of the Constitution intended to protect the rights of their constituents, and the last two items in the Bill of Rights offered an explicit stop against an all-powerful state. Cruz wrote: “They simply do so from different directions. The Tenth stops new powers, and the Ninth fortifies all other rights, or non-powers.”[24][30]

After graduating from Princeton, Cruz attended Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 1995 with a Juris Doctor.[2][31] While at Harvard Law, Cruz was a primary editor of the Harvard Law Review, and executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, and a founding editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review.[5] Referring to Cruz’s time as a student at Harvard Law, Professor Alan Dershowitz said, “Cruz was off-the-charts brilliant.”[12][32][33][34][35][36] At Harvard Law, Cruz was a John M. Olin Fellow in Law and Economics.[37]

Cruz currently serves on the Board of Advisors of the Texas Review of Law and Politics.[37][38]

Legal career

Clerkships

Cruz giving a speech to the Montgomery County Republican Party meeting held in Conroe, Texas, on August 19, 2013
Cruz served as a law clerk to J. Michael Luttig of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in 1995[4][37] and William Rehnquist, Chief Justice of the United States in 1996.[2] Cruz was the first Hispanic ever to clerk for a Chief Justice of the United States.[39]

Private practice

After Cruz finished his clerkships, he took a position with Cooper, Carvin & Rosenthal, which is now known as Cooper & Kirk, LLC, from 1997 to 1998.[40]

In 1998, Cruz served as private counsel for Congressman John Boehner during Boehner’s lawsuit against Congressman Jim McDermott for releasing a tape recording of a Boehner telephone conversation.[41]

Bush Administration

Cruz joined the George W. Bush presidential campaign in 1999 as a domestic policy adviser, advising then-Governor George W. Bush on a wide range of policy and legal matters, including civil justice, criminal justice, constitutional law, immigration, and government reform.[40]

Cruz assisted in assembling the Bush legal team, devise strategy, and draft pleadings for filing with the Supreme Court of Florida and U.S. Supreme Court, the specific case being Bush v. Gore, during the 2000 Florida presidential recounts, leading to two successful decisions for the Bush team.[37][42]

After President Bush took office, Cruz served as an associate deputy attorney general in the U.S. Justice Department[2][42] and as the director of policy planning at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.[2][12][42]

Texas Solicitor General

Appointed to the office of Solicitor General of Texas by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott,[4][43] Cruz served in that position from 2003 to 2008.[20][37]

Cruz has authored more than 80 United States Supreme Court briefs and presented 43 oral arguments, including nine before the United States Supreme Court.[4][12][22] Cruz’s record of having argued before the Supreme Court nine times is more than any practicing lawyer in Texas or any current member of Congress.[44] Cruz has commented on his nine cases in front of the U.S. Supreme Court: “We ended up year after year arguing some of the biggest cases in the country. There was a degree of serendipity in that, but there was also a concerted effort to seek out and lead conservative fights.”[44]

In the landmark case of District of Columbia v. Heller, Cruz drafted the amicus brief signed by attorneys general of 31 states, which said that the D.C. handgun ban should be struck down as infringing upon the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.[22][45] Cruz also presented oral argument for the amici states in the companion case to Heller before the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.[22][46]

In addition to his success in Heller, Cruz has successfully defended the constitutionality of Ten Commandments monument on the Texas State Capitol grounds before the Fifth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court, winning 5-4 in Van Orden v. Perry.[12][22][37]

In 2004, Cruz was involved in another high-profile case, which was Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow.[12][37] In Newdow, Cruz wrote a U.S. Supreme Court brief on behalf of all 50 states which argued that a non-custodial parent does not have standing in court to sue to stop a public school from requiring its students to recite of the Pledge of Allegiance.[12][37] The Supreme Court upheld the position of Cruz’s brief in a 9-0 decision.

Cruz served as lead counsel for the state and successfully defended the multiple litigation challenges to the 2003 Texas congressional redistricting plan in state and federal district courts and before the U.S. Supreme Court, winning 5-4 in League of United Latin American Citizens v. Perry.[37][47]

Cruz also successfully defended, in Medellin v. Texas, the State of Texas against an attempt by the International Court of Justice to re-open the criminal convictions of 51 murderers on death row throughout the United States.[4][12][22][37]

Cruz has been named by American Lawyer magazine as one of the 50 Best Litigators under 45 in America,[43][48] by The National Law Journal as one of the 50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America,[49][50] and by Texas Lawyer as one of the 25 Greatest Texas Lawyers of the Past Quarter Century.[51][52]

You maybe correct that he is in. Cruz doesn’t stay long in any endeavor so a
couple more years in the senate and he maybe on to other things. Cruz is an accomplisher.

If he does and if he would be elected it would be ironic in that we’d have back to back presidents with citizen mothers and foreign born fathers.
