Exclusive—Mitch McConnell: Obama, IRS Fight to Keep Conservative Nonprofits from Forming
Breitbart ^ | 1/30/14 | Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)

James Madison had it exactly right.

Referring to infringements on our freedoms, the Father of the Bill of Rights once wrote that such encroachments were more often “gradual and silent” than “violent and sudden.”

That’s exactly what we’re seeing with President Obama’s proposed regulation on so-called 501(c)(4) groups: a stealth attempt to stifle the ability of ordinary Americans to participate in the political process.

The administration’s proposal, quietly floated over Thanksgiving, is just the latest in a long line of attempts to skirt the Supreme Court’s 2010 ruling in Citizens United, which basically said that businesses and independent groups have the same right to free speech under the First Amendment as anybody else.

Liberals hated Citizens United because it helped level the political playing field for conservatives. In their view, corporations that own liberal media outlets like The New York Times and MSNBC should have an absolute right to free speech, but independent groups and other grassroots organizations that seek to promote Madisonian ideals like limited government and greater liberty need to be kept in check.

They tried this a few years ago with the DISCLOSE Act, a bill that would have forced grassroots groups to disclose their donor lists. The goal was as obvious as it was anti-democratic: expose the names of those who support unfashionable causes or candidates in the hope of scaring them right off the political playing field.

And we all know what happened after Republicans blocked the DISCLOSE Act. The President and his top campaign aides made the names of conservative donors famous on their own, signaling to top officials at the IRS that they shouldn’t think twice about giving extra scrutiny to anybody on the conservative team.

In the end, an independent Inspector General found that IRS officials abused their authority by singling out

The GOP and McConnell ruined this country, and then
supported Obama (who followed their lead on
open borders, gay marriage, RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE,
and added in Election Fraud and racism).

For us, the goal now should be to get as many Americans as we can engaged in this fight and beat back this latest assault on political speech. I’m convinced that once people realize what’s happening, the administration will feel the heat and back off.

The 'People' realize what's happening. But the Senate Minority Leader is a quintessential career politician who acts as a member of the high priest class of government bureaucrats and who has no fire in his belly except in his desire to 'punch in the nose' those in his own party that criticize him.

And it’s a fight we have to win.

Sure, just like the rush to cut off debate on the bill to defund Obamacare. The Senate Minority Leader is a lover of big government.

The Obama administration’s arrogance here is breathtaking. But if the American people get engaged and fight back, we will win this fight. I'm sure of it.

Right. It's all on the backs of the American people to get engaged (as if that's true which it's not). That's what the grassroots are doing by first replacing the deadwood in the upper ranks of a tone deaf political caste known as the republican elites.

The Senate Minority Leader would be well advised to not seek reelection and to find a 'career' elsewhere. Dwelling in the verbiage of "501(c)(4)", "Citizens United", "DISCLOSE ACT", etc. shows a penchant for policy wonkism and a deficit in the ability to see the forest from the trees in that each and every encroachment stems from the Income tax code fortified by the 16th Amendment.

Yes, subtle encroachments like an old leaky roof require tearing it out and replacing it with a new one or better to replace it with a superior design. Yet, the Senate Minority Leader insists on patching one crack after another. Keeps him busy looking somehow productive.

Viewing such leadership the terms 'drab' and 'self-serving' come to mind. He clearly wants to avoid the spot light as much as possible and will go along to get along.

McConnell putters about and wastes time on the arcane 'out of the limelight' low branches of policy regulation nuances never soaring to espouse a leadership view that inspires. Yet, he is the 'leader' of the minority party in the US Senate. This type of 'leadership' and its qualifier 'minority' are fused and inseparable in him.

As with a football team whose quarterback has thrown interception after interception, whose running backs have fumbled again and again, the followers are wanting a change.

Step aside McConnell. The rank and file, the base, all are in need of fresh blood, new leaders that articulate well amd cut to the chase for addressing problems of small encroachments.

501c status is an unconstitutional establishment of religion. Get rid of it, and the IRS. That will level the playing field.

McConnell is full of crap. Mark Levin said the GOP demanded these new IRS provisions be removed in the latest Ryan-Murray spending “deal”. The White House said NO WAY...and the GOP CAVED!

This is the same GEE OH PEE pablum that Neo-Democrat RINOs have been always been feeding to the gullible, low information voters.

McCain, McConnell, Cornyn, Boehner, Cantor, and Ryan are always “waiting for massive support from the Public” before they even consider doing a pitched battle with the enemy.

They go on TV to publicly beat their chests, and then “reach across the aisle to their good friends in order to get something done.”

The Neo-Democrat RINOs will never lead, they will always wait for a groundswell of Public discontent before they risk the incurring the wrath of their most dreaded enemy: The Leftstream Media.

Note to all the Congressional RINO leaders: We gave you in 2010 what you said you were waiting for - - - - The Massive TEA Party Rebellion, and y’all fought us every step of the way, and are fighting us now more than ever!

We gave you the support that y’all asked for and y’all betrayed us.

LEAD OR GET OUT OF OUR WAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, we have long memories, and just so y’all know, RINO SEASON IS NOW OPEN AND THERE ARE NO BAG LIMITS !
