“floating more than 12,500 kilometres (8,000 miles) from Mexico”
That's a bit extreme. El Paso would have been closer.

Yes I was thinking the same, wonder if he resorted to cannibalism? What a dreadful prospect.

Couldn’t blame him. Not that I’d enjoy the prospect. But survival does require priorities.

Probably used him for turtle bait!

He should be the new poster boy for navigational aids. Call Tom Tom or Garmin.

After the whaleship Essex was rammed by a large albino sperm whale, the survivors in one whaleboat drew lots and shot and ate the loser. The loser was a fourteen year old boy, and one of the “winners” offered to take his place, but he refused. When they got back to Nantucket, there was bad blood between the families of the survivors and the victim.

The loser was the nephew of captain Pollard, the captain of the Essex. The captain offered to take the boys place. The boy, said no, that he could no longer go on. The person that drew the lot to “dispatch dinner” was the boys best friend. They had signed up for the voyage together.

And if she's still looking for him, he'll put back out to sea....

I remember reading something like that not very long ago. Helluva choice to have to make. Can’t blame the people for being PO’d at the survivors. Snacking on one’s kin might not engender happy thoughts.
But better hated than dead.

Yeah, the continuing chronicles of Moby Dick.
