I am a Safety Manager for a national electrical contractor.
Yesterday we were having an estimator/Project Manager/Division Manager meeting and we were talking about increasing production and efficiency, all the while ensuring safety. These managers were talking about how much work we “should” get done in an 8-hour day - of course they were complaining that we were not getting that.
I finally explained that on most days, in construction, you get about 6-6.5 hours of “production” from your average employee. Younger workers typically produce LESS than 6 hours a day. Studies show this, observations show this, hell anyone who has worked in construction KNOWS this - they just refuse to actually see it as the truth. I explained that those who typically produce MORE than 6-6.5 hours per day, are the ones we have promoted to Field Managers and Superintendents. But your average worker will give you 6-6.5 hours of production each day.
I know, I know...there are exceptions. I have worked in the oil fields and I have worked in the military and several of those hands are 8-10-12 hour producers. But I am talking about your basic residential and commercial construction crews.
EVERY industry has it’s maximum production time - if you are going to be an upper-middle management guy, you should know your industry.
We'll probably just continue electing them to congress.
Here in the Northeast, Wawa, a convenience store, gas station and deli chain has a computer screen ordering system. (Romney visited one during his campaign).
To order a sub, you go through about 7 screens worth of options to "build" your sandwich. "Lot of mayo? Little bit of mayo?", etc.
It's great. Since I order the same thing every time, I can hammer through in about 10 seconds. The sub comes up 2 minutes later just as I want it prepared.
People don't start businesses to create jobs or pay more in taxes.
They do it to make money.
The less out of pocket expenses the better.
Employees, taxes and unions are a drag
There are some minor exceptions to this where some people will start a business knowing there will be a place for their children to work if the children don't find work out side of the business. -Tom
Looks like she is trying to squeeze one out to me.
We have a chain of gs stations called “Sheets” that has a similar capability but the time is much greater.
It does work
LOL! Thanks, I have never heard that one before.
Buckees, a local gas station throughout south Texas has automated ordering systems, and the work pretty quickly - depending on the customer volume.
I have visited two Jack-in-the-Cracks in San Antonio that have automated ordering kiosks which you can choose to use instead of dealing with the “friendly” staff behind the counter.
It is coming - just give it time, but it is coming.
Mika would be nowhere near the front side of a television camera if her last name was Smith or Jones.
What a dumb Polack. (So is her Dad)
“Just pass a law telling them they cannot.”
The Liberal brain is SOOOOO predictable.
A chain called Sheetz (gas + mini-mart) on the east coast has been doing order entry for hoagies and breakfast sandwiches &c via touch screen for years. Plenty of options for extra this, none of that, etc. I love it.
Sure. Just put an area in the program where you can speak into the ordering device to tell the cook whether there is something else about the order they should know about.
When the order goes back, it plays the recorded message.
Even that can get converted to text, if you’d like.
On chapt 7 now in 45 min of reading... way cool story.
