Nancy Pelosi: ObamaCare incompetence “not my responsibility”
Hotair ^ | 01/31/2014 | Ed Morrissey

This appearance by Nancy Pelosi on The Daily Show starts to run off the rails almost immediately. Jon Stewart starts off by asking Pelosi about why people talk about politics rather than policy, to which Pelosi answers by … complaining about Republicans. Stewart doesn’t take the bait, though, and starts pressing Pelosi for answers as to why big-government politicians can’t produce competent government — and gets stunned by her admission that she can’t explain why ObamaCare failed:

Stewart said that Democrats are then required to make a stronger case. He said that Democratic governance now appears “chaotic” and their execution of legislation appears to “lack efficiency.” When Pelosi again blamed Republicans for this condition, Stewart became even more agitated.

When he asked why it was so difficult to get a company to execute the Affordable Care Act’s insurance exchange website “competently,” Pelosi replied, “I don’t know.”

“What do you mean you don’t know? How do you not know?” Stewart asked laughing.

To which Nancy Pelosi responded: “It’s not my responsibility.” Hmmm. Who ran the House when the ObamaCare bill passed, with only votes from her party? Who claimed at the time that we couldn’t know how awesome this bill would be until it passed, because you couldn’t expect politicians to actually read a 2800-page bill before they voted on it? Given that this passed entirely on votes from her own party, and with some procedural chicanery thrown in for good measure, does she feel no responsibility at all for the results of this legislation she herself championed?

That’s a pretty good answer to Stewart’s broader point. He cites the ongoing problems at the VA as evidence that there is “clearly something systemic” in government incompetence:

“Do we have a foundational problem? Is there a corruption in the system that needs to be addressed?” Stewart asked. Pelosi went on to detail the issues with bureaucracy and the failure of departments to communicate with each other. “Okay, do something about it,” Pelosi said.

“I was actually going to say that to you,” Stewart interjected.

The systemic problem is the fact that big-government regimes like ObamaCare won’t work because central planning of large economies never work, for reasons laid out by economist F. A. Hayek decades ago in The Road to Serfdom. History has only proven Hayek correct over and over again, while utopians keep insisting that the problem is just the people involved in its implementation. And Hayek predicts why incompetents and bullies end up at the top of those systems, too. Maybe Stewart should read it. It’s far too late for Pelosi.

I still say someone needs to shove that gavel in a place that would require a proctological specialist to remove.

If I am ever elected President the first thing I do is hire Jack Welch as my Chief of Staff with orders to implement Six Sigma across the entire Fed payroll, with the goal of reducing head count 20% in three years. Then I tell him to take it to the next step and start eliminating programs to further reduce staff count.

Then I move the remaining Social Security Admin staff to Detroit, or even better, hire the unemployed THERE instead of moving clerical workers.

Then I move the Agriculture Department to St. Louis and do the same thing.

Until the Washington DC real estate market starts to implode I will not be happy.

To reduce Washington control decentralize the remaining DC agencies and spread out the jobs to places that are in need of those jobs more than the nomenclature in DC.

Make it that the Press will have pretty much NOTHING to cover in DC - let them move to Detroit, St. Louis and Cleveland; then they will start to reaquaint themselves with reality!

“Do we have a foundational problem? Is there a corruption in the system that needs to be addressed?” Stewart asked.

Stewart doesn't get it. It is not just the people in charge, it is the system. Socialism wouldn't work if it were run by angels.

I am also a fan of spreading the Federal Government out of DC.

When, for example, the VA is not allowed, by law, to have a communication with the Pentagon it becomes irrelevant to have them in the same town.

The same with the FBI and the CIA.

Plus, in a time of war it is always more effective to spread your resources outside of a single 20 square mile area.

“What difference does it make” and “It’s not my responsibility” go hand-in-hand.

For the rest of my life I will remember the footage of Pelosi holding that ridiculously over-sized gavel and intentionally walking with that “F You” expression through that crowd of peaceful American protestors.

That really did leave quite the impression. /growl

“An example of the “feelgoodism” of the leftist ideology.

Her job was done once she felt good about herself for providing “affordable healthcare for the poor”.

Exactly! “Nancy Pelosi: ObamaCare incompetence “not my responsibility”

This insane process is done every day at every political power level from city councils to rectums like Pelosi/Waxman/Reid/Obozo. They make their wet dreams into impossible legal actions. Then they walk away from the disasters they created to create more disasters.

Nanacy Pelosi shall NEVER know what is in the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010”, but she could find out quickly enough if she would simply consult “Beating Obamacare”, by Betsy McCaughey.

Of course, that shall never happen, because Congresscritter Pelosi would NEVER refer to a book that had been written by such an obviously partisan hack. The book was published by Regnery, and Dr. McCaughey was the former lieutenant governor of New York, a Republican. All just total negative vibes for a True Believer liberal Democrat.

Pelosi says the Founding Fathers vision was a happy and healthy life so you could pursue your dream to be a comedian. I'm guessing the Fathers will be lined up waiting their turn to slap this woman when her time comes.

Should have asked her if she knows what’s in the bill she passed yet.

You are right. I wonder if she has yet to read the bill. I know Mary Landrieu hasn’t because she said she would vote for it again. I hope that was her swan song!
