Carey Institute To Explore "What If" Of Palin Presidency
WAMC-FM Northeast Public Radio ^ | January 31, 2014 | Dave Lucas

President Obama’s election in 2008 marked a landmark shift in American politics. But what if he had lost? What would life in America be like today, had John McCain and Sarah Palin headed to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave?

(AUDIO-AT-LINK)

Imagine a Sarah Palin presidency — what kind of a difference —if any — would it have made if the course of history had flowed in a different direction?

The Carey Institute for Global Good in Rensselaerville is hosting its latest Carey Dialogue Saturday night. Institute President Carol Ash is extending an invitation to the public to come and discuss what she says are very important issues about political and social forces at work in our country. "We have been last year and this year for our winter activity, putting on a series of what we call dialogs, which is bringing authors of books that have a point of view, and asking the regional audience to come and hear what they have to say and discuss with them the theories and the attitudes and the facts behind their books."

Ash says people need to be informed, and notes that the February 1st evening of political “what if” discussion will be with New York City and Hudson Valley resident Frederic C. Rich, the author of one of last year’s most controversial novels: Christian Nation. "His hope is that through this book, people on both sides of the political spectrum will start to listen, start to take elected officials and candidates at their word, that they will do what they say and that they will make intelligent, informed decisions based on that."

I asked the author, Fred Rich, how the religious right has responded to his book. "The Christian community in general has reacted rather positively to the book. The book was praised by the Dean of St. John the Cathedral, by theologians up at Boston University, a variety of other ministers who recognized that the book is neither anti-religious in general or anti-Christian in specific. The far right, the kind of Christian Nationalist movement, interestingly did not react in any kind of monolithic way. I would say the particular fans of Sarah Palin expressed a fair degree of outrage. There were thousands of comments online. I did a series of editorials for example on the Huff Post about the book if you sift through literally thousands of comments, you'll see that many of them are pretty emotional along the lines of 'Why do you hate God so much' or 'You're the Anti-Christ.' "

The Carey Institute will open its doors at 6 p.m. and the event will start at 6:30.

I just checked Sarah Palin's page to see if she had any comment about this, but only found this comment about .... (drum roll) ... Peggy Noonan ...LOL.

Great article, Peggy, but where the heck were you when I and other commonsense conservatives were sounding the warning bell in '08? You joined the "cool kids" in mocking and condescendingly criticizing -- ultimately demanding that we "sit down and shut up." Better late than never, though, Peggy and your ilk, because, meanwhile back in America...

Well, two things:

1. Why on earth would anybody care what these folks think?

2. There is no doubt in my mind what this country would look like after 5 years of a Palin Presidency. To put it mildly, nothing like it looks today.

I bet under a Palin Presidency, she would have the blood of four dead Americans on her hands, an IRS that targets her political opponents, and the NSA that spies on EVERYONE..oh wait, that wasn’t Sarah Palin, that was Barack Obama

I have found absolutely NO independently verifiable information that would lead me or any other rational human being to believe that Barak Obama is more intelligent or competent than Sarah Palin....NONE.....

A Palin presidency would have the greatest expansion of the private sector since Reagan and Palin would respect the Constitution unlike the traitor occupying the Whitehouse.

There would be none of that.

The national deficit would be way down, we would not be cutting and running from Iraq and Afghanistan, Iran would not have nukes, we would not have gay marriage and Roe would be overturned.

Amusing that she’s supposedly irrelevant, useless, washed-up and yet nearly six years on, no-name leftists are putting her name on stuff to get publicity.

In the 5 years we have had to examine our current president’s words and actions, I would say that ANYBODY who doubted his intelligence, sincerity, or promises to work for the American people would find that there is way more than enough reliable information on hand to convict him of being a serial liar about every aspect of his life, his past, his schooling, etc. WHAT exactly is True about this guy?

What a stupid premise for an article or book.

First, if McCain won, SP would still be just VP.

Remember all the wailing and gnashing of teeth over the then 71 year old McCain possibly "dying in office"? By people like Matt Damon?

McCain is still among the living. And as much as I hate that guy, at least the country would be in MUCH better shape.

Wonder how much "wailing" there will be over a 70 year old alcoholic stroke (And traumatic brain injury) survivor running for POTUS in 2016?

Wager? NONE.

Kind of difficult to imagine. Based on the last election America at least at that time clearly expressed a preference for collectivism. Hopefully their experience with ObamaCare will wake them up a bit. Generally speaking America does not go with the same party for 16 years so if McCain-Palin had won in 2008 they may have lost in 2012.

Especially in light of the fact that she has been 100% correct in everything she has ever said about Obama.

OTOH Palin if she had won would be forced to defend all of the moderate/leftist trips a President McCain would have been taking as President.

I’m guessing that the extra stress of the presidency would’ve finished him off in short order.

Compare Mr. Obama’s wiki bio about his time at Harvard Law School to Senator Cruz's. It'll make you laugh uproariously.
