Usernames and passwords of some of Yahoo's email customers have been stolen and used to gather personal information about people those Yahoo mail users have recently corresponded with, the company said Thursday.
Yahoo didn't say how many accounts have been affected. Yahoo is the second-largest email service worldwide, after Google's Gmail, according to the research firm comScore. There are 273 million Yahoo mail accounts worldwide, including 81 million in the United States.

Again? My account was hacked the last time this happened.
Not password hashes?
Yahoo has NO personal info of mine, I don’t even use my real name in that account.
Typically what they get is the address book to send out spam emails with links to Trojan site pages, with a message ‘Check out this great site’.
Yahoo did not notify members, so be sure to change your password, I did.
It looks like mine was hacked for a short time before they suspended it. I got dozens of returned messages.
I don’t know how many it actually sent.
They were links to http://clovertest.com/331642.php being sent out.
I love the internet, as a matter of fact, I’m addicted to the Internet. However, I know that the Internet is very insecure, and I enter that realm knowing that my information is subject to compromise at any time. I tread lightly.
There have been programs around designed specifically for hacking Yahoo accounts for years. I personally got thousands of them but since Yahoo went way down in popularity I’ve had most of them deleted due to lack of use and I don’t even care. It was also a case of hacking the accounts specifically for the names. Modern hackers are looking more for things to steal like banking information. But just by looks alone it appears that it would be as easy to get in now as it was back in the early to mid 2000’s when name collecting was in its heyday.
I only use yahoo for free throwaway email accounts.
In the last 3 weeks I have been at war with a Trojan that started and is embedded in my email account, plus it reproduces. I had some decent security programs and purchased another. Their engineering people could not even set up my new software, they gave up and left me to my own devices. I managed to set it up but it still won’t kill this bug. All it can do is block and vault the stuff. Has slowed my computer so much that I have no choice but to purchase another and no longer use Yahoo for any reason. Will have to load each bookmarked site by hand. By the way the co. that could not load the program has refunded my money. Had they tried my remedy they could have loaded it as I did. Being a hillbilly I know that you can fix most anything with duct tape, wire, and a hammer. I used the hammer, it worked.
Oh, that's nice!
I changed my password yesterday and haven’t been able to access my account since. I can log into Yahoo, but not email. Very frustrating!
I've been using GMail for years without a problem. There are other alternatives. Microsoft recently came out with Outlook.com to match their Microsoft Office name.
MyWay.com is interesting. They imitate Yahoo without all the glitter.
Any recommendations for a provider with similar content and free e-mail?
How are they screwing things up so bad?
Logging into my account but they won’t let me retrieve and read email in my inbox now. Am using an ipad.
What do I do now?
