SAN FRANCISCO In the latest in a spate of online attacks affecting American businesses, White Lodging, which manages hotel franchises for chains like Marriott, Hilton and Starwood Hotels, is investigating a potential security breach involving customers payment information.
White Lodging Services Corporation, which works with 168 hotels in 21 states, confirmed that it was examining the data breach.
The intrusion into its systems was first posted by Brian Krebs, a security blogger, on Friday, when he reported that the breach might have resulted in the fraudulent use of hundreds of credit and debit cards used for payment at Marriott hotels between March 2013 and the end of the year.
Mr. Krebs was also first to report the hacking of consumer data from Target, Neiman Marcus and Michaels, the arts and crafts retailer.

Seem to be coming out a couple times a week now. Obviously something is very wrong here.
Seems to be a well coordinated attack on our country.
Maybe an inside job.

Hotel Franchise Firm White Lodging Investigates Breach
White Lodging, a company that maintains hotel franchises under nationwide brands including Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton and Westin appears to have suffered a data breach that exposed credit and debit card information on thousands of guests throughout much of 2013, KrebsOnSecurity has learned.
Earlier this month, multiple sources in the banking industry began sharing data indicating that they were seeing a pattern of fraud on hundreds of cards that were all previously used at Marriott hotels from roughly March 23, 2013 on through the end of last year. But those sames sources said they were puzzled by the pattern of fraud, because it was seen only at specific Marriott hotels, including locations in Austin, Chicago Denver, Los Angeles, Louisville and Tampa.
I thought the same thing, with the news of the yahoo email hack
Used to be possible if the bad guy got into one system that could allow "opening the door" (so to speak) to other sites doing similar related processing directly or through some third-party site.
Second, a penetrator once inside can leave behind a Trojan Horse to allow him to get back in at will.
A group not caught up with being the enforcement arm of the Democrat Party... a group not hunting out the elusive conservative grandmother on freerepublic... we can dream, right?
I can’t imagine how this can change unless billing is done on more local, closed levels. Remember the store credit cards of old? You opened an account at a local department store and they’d send you a bill once a month. You’d pay be check.
White Lodging
Must be racist
Good point. Don’t see much federal help for this one.
Well,the NSA is quite busy!
It would also prevent people from accumulating mountains of credit card debt.
But then, that would destroy the whole idea of "credit" cards, wouldn't it?
United is sending me another card and told me to stop using my current one.
Hotels, car rental places and others that refuse cash and demand credit cards are ideal “Targets” for I.D. scammers. I prefer to deal with cash so I don’t go to those places.
These places need to pray the money and get https sites, not just http sites.
