I asked Jim if we could start an AA thread to help those of us who are suffering.

Posted on 02/01/2014 5:49:38 PM PST by RoosterRedux

I have a problem with substance abuse and ask my brother Freepers if together we might form a union like AA.

Most of us are Christians and Jews...not of that crowd which honors an amorphous higher authority.

But even those who are honoring said higher authority should be welcome I guess.

I have been abstaining but would love support of my brothers and sister in this war.

I believe FR has a power. God's power...to heal.

If I am wrong...prove me wrong!

But if I am right...bless us with your prayers.

Whatever your addiction is, it can be beat. The transformation is a life changer.

I’m probably a bit more tan 10 years without alcohol. I don’t see much point in keeping track.

Do you mean alcoholic and drug addict conservatives discussing their secrets and failings in public here, on the record?

That doesn’t seem very smart to me to create a record like that for people who at some point want to take a public stance, or run for office, or become the leader of some local political story, or whatever.

I'm in. Am I the token female?

I, too, think its time to lay off alcohol. And Starbucks during the week. I'm by no means an alcoholic, but I could cut definitely cut back. All support is welcome.

The closest thing would be in the Religion forum.

I am a little wary about incautious use of the word religion, because that covers a potpourri of faith systems. In fact everybody carries on religion — the only difference is what is it about.

But that pitfall carefully sidestepped, why not put it in Religion. Christian AA is really vintage AA. It was based on a Methodist plan of salvation. As a “Calminian” I think it’s a bit weak on the ironclad promise of eternal salvation. God may have to put your life through the wringer if you stray, but you WILL be back at the final trump. However, it does put attention on your call to work your salvation out on earth (with fear and trembling as the bible says). Recovered addicts are some of the most astounding displays of God’s grace there can be, as long as they get their theology straight enough.

Don’t go here if you don’t want to be here. That said, it might be wiser to use a more private forum. Maybe this could be more a place for the testimonies of those more advanced in their recovery walk.
