I have a problem with substance abuse and ask my brother Freepers if together we might form a union like AA.
Most of us are Christians and Jews...not of that crowd which honors an amorphous higher authority.
But even those who are honoring said higher authority should be welcome I guess.
I have been abstaining but would love support of my brothers and sister in this war.
I will pray for you tonight, brother. God bless you and strengthen you in this fight.
Will pray for you. I’ve some friends who are trying to quit drugs, recreational type.
26 years sober
22 years without a smoke
A life second to none!
Like AA, what if you have family that has an addiction problem? Can we participate?
Our forgiveness comes because we confess. And if we don't confess in public...how can our brothers and sister see our confession and confess their own sins.
There is a medication which is proving very promising in reducing the craving for alcohol. Maybe ask a doctor about it. It’s called Gabapentin. Recent studies and someone I know suggest it works for some.
Well, I guess I could have been in Sexaholics.
There are a lot of ‘holics. But if we are Holyholics, then that will conquer the other ‘holisms.
“Knowing when to quit is the secret. Took me a few years to figure it out.”
I quit all together. Once I start it’s Katie bar the door. Sometime 10 to 15 years ago I said enough.
Thank you my brother...I feel your strength and prayer!
Prayers up for all.
We will!
Perhaps we can meet here on FR.
Such modern medical mercies can open up a window for addressing the issues on a deeper level.
But I’ll tell you folks till I am blue in the face. Be a God-a-holic and that will give you the perspective needed to conquer the other problems, which are really lesser gods competing for your allegiance. At the same time the real God is longsuffering.
Your strength is always (well most of time) in your comments.;-)
I found new more productive habits like gardening and photography.
Prayers and support for those of you with an addictive bent.
Some of us take for granted that we can have a beer or wine now and then to enjoy and that’s that. Encourage you to start a thread on the topic—why not. Its healthy to communicate instead of suffering in hidden silence.
We all have flaws in some area of our lives.
I’m a tech-a-holic I guess.
Just can’t stop myself, too much info, will never be able to digest it all...arrrggghhhh!
Accept all the grace you can get, and I pray more grace from God to you.
God is wonderful. It’s we who have been raising the barriers that state, falsely, that God isn’t wonderful, with those lies being energized by the father of lies.
If you embark on this I will try to encourage you as best I can in God’s power. I’ve seen victory after the most intense battles. Some of them might seem to be carried on in nonintuitive ways. A highly recovered alcoholic will still be happy when other people, not alcoholics, use alcoholic beverages so as to glorify God (yes, that’s possible). Less strong ones should limit their exposure to such scenes, or avoid them (and the approach will be guided by the Holy Spirit).
You’ve got it, Sandy. :)
God bless you and all who struggle with addiction.
With the help of the Lord, yes, the cycle can be broken.
There is such a thing as victory.
Anyone who has personal experience that they are willing to share, will certainly help someone else on here.
Laz, you have had quite a journey—your insights would be invaluable here, if you would like to share.
