I read a book about twenty-some years ago called “Saving The Planet”, which took a look at environmental issues from a conservative point of view. One of the issues discussed was asbestos, and that about 90 percent of the stuff was relatively harmless, IIRC. It was the other 10 percent that was carcinogenic.
However, if you’re constantly exposed to asbestos, you can get some lung condition called asbestosis.
Back in the 70s when I used to work on vehicle brakes, a wise old-timer told me that asbestos was a problem, smoking was a problem, but the two combined were extreme negative synergy.
Guess we had the 10%.
