Do your math again;) If the sister was 12 years’ old when Merle was born (to her or someone else) - the age difference is still 12 years.

Your are correct, of course. But I wasn't criticizing anyone's math. Consider: I have a sister*. That sister was 12 years old when I was born. For that first year of my life, she was my 12-year-old sister. But for most of my life, she has been my 12-year-older sister.
I feel that it is simply less confusing and more elegant to formulate it my way.

I'm not sure the jury would agree with trying her as an adult. She's 16. In an inappropriate relationship. Her mother is clearly a fail based on the amount of metal in the girl's face and the fact that this relationship was ongoing.
The mother claims she was mentally ill. Was there evidence of that before this event? Or is the mother claiming that now because her daughter is facing murder charges?
