Liberalism’s Biggest Lie: If You Like Your Morality, You Can Keep Your Morality
The Public Discourse ^ | January 31, 2014 | Carson Holloway

The unchecked progress of sexual liberalism means that we cannot say what kind of moral culture our children will inhabit as adults or, accordingly, what kind of moral culture will form our grandchildren. No responsible person can support such a movement.

In recent months there has been a good deal of discussion of the president’s apparent mendacity in his selling of the Affordable Care Act. “If you like your health care you can keep it,” the president repeatedly assured his fellow citizens while the law was pending before Congress. The roll-out of the law in late 2013, however, revealed that this promise was no good, and it is difficult to believe that the president was not aware of this even as he was making it. Because the use of dishonesty to win support for legislation is hardly compatible with the American promise of self-government, this issue has deserved all the attention it has gotten, and indeed it deserves even more.

Nevertheless, the sitting president’s efforts to achieve progress (as he understands it) by recourse to falsehoods should also lead us to probe more deeply and see the bigger, even more consequential falsehoods upon which liberalism has relied for the last two or three generations. With every step of the “progress” it has sought in recent decades, with every effort it has made to “free” us from some aspect of morality, liberalism has made an Obama-like assurance that has turned out to be wrong.

Five years ago, the president falsely told Americans, “If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.” For the last fifty years, liberalism as a movement of moral liberation has repeatedly assured Americans, “If you like your morality, you can keep your morality.” In both cases, the game is to promise

what kind of moral culture will form our grandchildren.

I’m glad that I am old enough and won’t live to to see that “spawn from hell” coming.

I’ve lived the good moral life we had in the 40’s, 50’s and the first part of the 60’s.

Now, with each passing year the morals of our society have been destroyed more and more.

I can’t imagine our society in the next 20 years.

Liberal don’t accept any other morality than their own. Its not enough that gays could do whatever they want in their own bedroom. They have to force the rest of society to accept them or be punished

Yeah, people more or less kept their heads down trying to be ‘open minded’ since the second half of the sixties, but with their backs to the wall what Christians are beginning to say today, privately and publicly, isn't as mushmouthed or ‘inclusive’ as I've been hearing for most of my life. We are entering the phase of push back. Where that goes who the hell knows but the language I will use with my 31/2 yr old son in describing sickness, stupidity and deviance will be appropriately thunderous and uncompromising.

I agree with most of the points in this essay, but he really should have started the process with the adoption of “no fault divorce”. The breakdown of sexual morality in America starts there, IMHO.

People who participated in the Stonewall riots precipitated by Police attempts to arrest an underaged prostitute in a bar, attempted to trap the Police in the bar while it was burning down.

They tried to murder the Police.

No fault divorce is bad, but I would argue its a symptom rather than a cause. The real breakdown in sexual morality began with the invention and introduction of cheap reliable contraceptives in the mid 60’s. If you look at the charts, the numbers of divorces, abortions, teenage pregnancies, and incidence of assorted STD’s all skyrocket from that time on.

I don't care what people do with each other in private...but I'm damned tired of what I personally consider immoral thrown in at me on TV, movies, and "in my face" at the local mall. The Grammys? Gays getting married at halftime at the Super Bowl? Commercials that no longer border on but are pornography? When was the last time there was a marriage at halftime between a man and a woman with a Christian pastor/priest officiating...complete package with prayers? That won't be showing anywhere near you soon because that would not be politically correct and would offend athiests and Muslims. Most watch the halftime show in hopes of seeing another "accidentally exposed" breast. Better yet, let's marry gays with some rap singer officiating, that is "normal" in this society.

I'm real close to some civil disobedience and ready to start DEMANDING equal time!

No, it was preceded by abolishing laws/taboos against birth control. That made no-fault divorce all the easier to sell.
