Chicago had half as many murders in January 2014 compared to the first month of 2013.
Police reported 20 killings in the month, which had 11 days of subzero temperature and was one of the coldest months in recent years.
The superintendent has said weather is a factor, but its not the only factor, said Chicago Police spokesman Adam Collins. It neither causes nor prevents crime.
Overall, Chicago had 50 percent fewer killings than it did in January 2013, when 40 people were murdered; 47 percent fewer slayings than January 2012, when 38 people were killed; and a 29 percent decrease from January 2011, when 28 people were murdered, police said.

Every summer we're treated to hand-wringing stories about the effect of the long, hot summer on the feral population.

Speaking of taglines, why does yours limit it to guns and explosives?
—yep—I’ve sometimes made the comment that I could leave off the firearms and explosives part—
I think it should stay, but I’d be tempted to go with::
—don’t believe anything the media or government says, especially about firearms or explosives—
Well, this is definite proof that global warming causes firearm deaths, not the firearms themselves.
As of a few days ago, 33,631 CCW applications have been submitted in Illinois (8,000 from Chicago), and the first licenses should actually start being issued in March.
Chicago might drag its feet in issuing licenses to Chicago residents, but that won't stop commuters from carrying (at least the ones who drive in -- you can't carry on public transportation, or a number of other places).
Cheers to the Polar Vortex....saved more black children’s lives in 31 days than Obama has in 50 YEARS!
Now we need some hi-cap polar vortexes.
When half the people LEAVE your town ......duuh, the Crime goes down.
Half million population towns don’t have as much crime as million population towns.
Their aim is worse in extremely cold weather.
So 50 percent of what hugh number?
