In 2011, the Department of Justice raided Gibson Guitar facilities in Memphis and Nashville, alleging a violation of the so-called Lacey Act, a law that bans the importation of certain kinds of wildlife, plants and wood.
At the time of the raid, Gibson Guitars CEO Henry Juszkiewicz told Hugh Hewitt on his radio show that the feds confiscated tonewood imported from India for the guitar Gibson manufacturers which would result in a cost of $2 to $3 million for his company.
At a great expense in legal fees and time, Juszkiewicz fought the federal government tooth and nail. But in August 2012, he settled with the Department of Justice by agreeing to pay a penalty of $300,000 and a $50,000 community service payment to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

Lagunita brewing co in California of all places has some very creative names for their beers. I buy them and keep the empty just for the label...about three years ago they put out “Wilco Tango Foxtrot jobless recovery ale”, and last year they had “undercover investigation shutdown ale”, and “censored copper ale”.
I sort of think they just might be mocking the current administration.
And their brewers are good.
I don’t play guitar, but if they’d named the series “Obama Sucks” or something similar, I’d buy one.
Someday they will fight back. And won't be by ironically renaming their product.
So broke I just had to sell my 1979 mint Les Paul.
And before that a mint BC Rich warlock barely played.

Fender is the other major marketer of guitars. And, yes, they are a big Demo donor.
This was nothing more than Eric Holder doing a number on his big donor's competitor. Croney Capitalism at its worst.
But a few and keep them full, keep them a few years and sometimes items like that make a good investment.
So I wonder if these government series guitars are heavy, too big, bloated, and complicated to work. If they have a milspec number they’ll cost 400 times more than an identical model without the milspec number.

In 1994, my home was robbed and "they" decided they needed my late 70s wine red Les Paul Deluxe and a few more things more than I did. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to replace it.
GuvCo did a similar thing when they raided Gibson a couple of times and confiscated their supply of ebony, forcing them to find something else to make their fretboards with.
So, on the last day of 2011, obama "forced" me to buy one of the last Gibson Les Paul Customs with an ebony fingerboard before they switched to Richlite.
I don't really need another guitar, but I sure do love my Les Paul and Gibson's attitude.
I might just have to have one of their "Government Series" guitars...as a matter of principle, doncha know.
(Rationalization is a handy thing to have when you're shopping for something you want but don't need.)
In fact they did, CF Martin benefited mightily while being Big Obama Donors.
