‘America the vulgar’ - The decadence is obvious to all except its elitist sources
The Washington Times ^ | January 31, 2014 | Robert Knight

The trouble with liberals is not just that they eventually run out of other people’s money, as Margaret Thatcher observed. It’s that they find new ways every day to project their own dysfunctional worldview on the rest of us.

It’s like living next door to a nuclear-waste dump run by the Bumpusses. You’d like to ignore it, but shards of spent fuel keep falling into your yard and setting your dog on fire.

This is how non-progressive Americans increasingly view our ever-coarsening, “progressive” popular culture and the ruling elites who promote it. They’re aghast at not only the moral meltdown, but the rise of dictatorial executive power in Washington, as explained to us by the president in his State of the Union address, in which he reduced Congress to a helpmate at best.

As for whether the culture is rotten, ask any anxious parent whose child is out of sight for more than five minutes. Ask middle-class wage earners working on their tax return, trying to please an increasingly ruthless Internal Revenue Service.

It’s all connected. As the moral, marriage-based culture collapses, the government grows bigger to pick up the pieces. In such a culture, it’s easy for the president and his media allies to stoke the fires of envy and spread more dependency. It works even better when the people are stoned....

Very true. I will say that I was in westlake park in the early nineties, thanks to Kirby Wilbur and KVI radio. My three daughters were with me, along with about 34oo others. We shut down Hillary’s health care gauntlet.

I told my daughters that they changed the course of American history that day more than a lifetime of voting would have done.

And, if you look at history and the downfall of nations, was it not the alliance with the progressive “artists” of the times which greatly helped to bring down those societies?

Could you provide some examples of nations and artists?

Thanks.

My understanding is that Western Civ since the mid-1700s has been more or less historically unique in having a consistent intellectual/artistic "anti-culture." This anti-culture or counter-culture has widened and deepened its influence, with occasional setbacks, to where it is today dominates the popular culture.

If there are other examples in history of such a phenomenon, I'd be grateful if they were pointed out.

If this is true (and I have often speculated the same concept as you have here), then should not there be a logical throwback against it eventually? I have often wondered why the younger generation has not rebelled against this hedonism which imprisons them.

Conservatism and Christianity are both counter-cultures to the current culture. If we could somehow get the youth to get on board as the anti-culture, then it might turnaround. Youth is a time of rebellion. It just might work.

Often wondered that myself. But the majority of young people keep patting themselves on the back for “speaking truth to power” when they hold the exact same views as those who ARE in power.
