Sowell: Republicans to the Rescue?
Creators Syndicate ^ | January 4, 2014 | Thomas Sowell

Some supporters of President Obama may be worried about how he and the Democrats are going to fare politically, as the problems of ObamaCare continue to escalate, and it looks like the Republicans have a chance to win a majority in the Senate.

But Democrats may not need to worry so much. Republicans may once again come to the rescue of the Democrats, by discrediting themselves and snatching defeat from the very jaws of victory.

The latest bright idea among Republicans inside the Beltway is a new version of amnesty that is virtually certain to lose votes among the Republican base and is unlikely to gain many votes among the Hispanics that the Republican leadership is courting.

One of the enduring political mysteries is how the Republicans can be so successful in winning governorships and control of state legislatures, while failing to make much headway in Washington. Maybe there are just too many clever GOP consultants inside the Beltway.

When it comes to national elections, just what principles do the Republicans stand for? It is hard to think of any, other than their hoping to win elections by converting themselves into Democrats lite. But voters who want what the Democrats offer can vote for the real thing, rather than Johnny-come-lately imitations.

Listening to discussions of immigration laws and proposals to reform them is like listening to something out of "Alice in Wonderland."

Immigration laws are the only laws that are discussed in terms of how to help people who break them. One of the big problems that those who are pushing "comprehensive immigration reform" want solved is how to help people who came here illegally and are now "living in the shadows" as a result.

Isn’t that the pack started by Facebook’s Zuckerberg and his lefty cronies? Real conservatitve bunch there.

Rubio and Ryan fronted the Zuckerberg group the first time around. They are playing it a bit more coy now but I don’t doubt they still are dreaming of legalization.

The really stupid ones are the uninformed Republican primary voters who enable these charlatans like Graham, Cochran, McC, Lamar!, and Cornball.

I haven’t heard him express support for them... not that he hasn’t... I just have yet to hear it.

Not to mention, whether they lose the election or not, they still "win". Almost everything on the 'rats agenda, they can get behind, That includes gun grabbing. After all, it won't affect them if the Second Amendment rights of regular Americans are abrogated. Just ask Bloomberg-he sticks his nose into the affairs of other states in order to grab guns, but still has an entourage of armed security, and I'd bet money that he personally owns guns. The GOP is no longer the party of small government, they haven't opposed CommieCare one bit in any meaningful way-I don't even give them credit anymore for voting against it, since they knew the 'rats had the votes to pass it, and it wasn't going to affect them anyway-yes I'm that cynical regarding the GOP now. They constantly send Obama budgets just as he asked for them, they allowed him, some even got on board with him, to turn the military into a socially engineered farce. Other than Cruz, Mike Lee, Jeff Sessions, and a couple of others, they haven't mounted any real opposition to a thing Obama's done, instead, they mounted opposition to those who took a stand for conservative principles. In all these decades, they've never made a meaningful move to repeal Roe v Wade.

They get to DC, collect their money and perks, make connections in order to fatten their bank accounts, and mouth a few conservative platitudes when they're up for re-election, and that's it. Almost every one of them leaves DC, when they finally leave, much richer than when they arrived there. That's all getting elected means to them.

At least the 'rats have a few "true believers", even if what they believe in is Communism (with themselves as the elite leadership). They fight down and dirty to get their agenda passed. The only big item they haven't won so far is gun control, and they're chipping away at that-the tactic of incrementalsm they use so effectively-the way they do until they only need to give it a small nudge for it to fall over the cliff.

As for amnesty for non-American (mostly Mexican, this law will never apply to white European immigrants who outstayed their visas), the 'rats don't even need to fight this battle, the GOP is doing it for them.

He has two groups-one that is out-and-out leftist, and one that pretends fo be conservative. I hate to think how many uninformed conservatives will reflexively support this one simply because they see the word “conservative” in the name, without bothering to investigate it.

As long as the gibme voters are getting their gibmes (and they are getting ever more gibmes, some have things that working people can't afford), they care not one whit about the state of the nation. Even if they could see that far, they wouldn't care. They are ruled by impulse, and have little capacity for forward thinking. Also, they can plainly see, as can we all, that it's open season on whites, with no repercussions. The one time a person has been charged with a federal hate crime for playing the knockout "game", it was a white person. I don't say he shouldn't be prosecuted, I simply say that so should all the blacks who have "played" this "game". One man "played" it at least seven times before he was apprehended-his victims being elderly white women-guess what he said? He said that he sucker-punched them in "self-defense". No, he has not been charged with a federal hate crime.

Sadly the liberals know what their agenda is ... they have important medias, press, individuals, agreed upon plans to make this a socialist nation. They seem not to know it will change America into a third world nation ... Of which there are several around the world.

The medias successfully cast conservatives, Republicans, as rich, selfish, hard hearted, ill advised, wanting to subjugate, the peoples of America. When actually, that is really the liberal position.

In truth The last (time during the Clinton administration) the Republicans were in the majority, they were constantly attacked mercilessly. they decided then they did not like being in the majority and have successfully avoided it every since.

Except for Sarah Palin no one seriously wants to be the spearhead of a effective fight for our Constitution, the nation and the principles upon which it made America into the greatest success story of any nation, with freedom, private property rights, restrained government. etc. We seem to have become cowards and willing to do anything to keep from being in charge. Gun rights. Immigration. Abortion. Same sex marriage are displeasing to God and we are going to pay the price of turning from God according to His Word. Forgive us Father we know not what we do, in Jesus name amen. God help America.
