WILC Drops Spanish Tunes For English Talk - 2/3 - Last week, DCRTV tipped you about a format change today at WILC. Now, Tom Taylor Now has more about AM 900 dropping Spanish adult contemporary "Romantica 900" for talk. ZGS Communications owns the Laurel, Maryland-licensed WILC, but DCRTV says "Wallis Communications will be running'" the new talk format that includes Glenn Beck from Premiere, live from 9 AM to noon. He's followed by "Dr. K," Ken Constantine's "Capitol Hill Show" in afternoon drive, and WestwoodOne's Dennis Miller. No morning show yet. The site says you can expect "some old Wolfman Jack shows in the midnight to 6 AM slot." WILC had been Spanish "Romantica" for nearly three years, since March 2011. It runs 1,900-watts daytime and 500-watts at night. The ZGS ownership group includes Eduardo Zavala (presumably the "Z") and Ronald J. Gordon (the "G").
A couple of months ago, Metro Radio's south-of-DC WTNT Alexandria, 730 AM, and its translator at 102.9 FM, went the other way, formatically - from talk to Spanish contemporary, as "La Capital." But signal-wise, there's little overlap between its signal and that of WILC.....
Driving into DC from the south at 7am there was no signal. at 4pm strong signal.
