US ready to return to moon

America is preparing to land a robot on the moon for the first time in four decades.

Nasa is looking for private partners to participate in the project that will see a new generation of rovers wandering across the moon’s surface.

The American space agency has set up a programme called Catalyst to exploit commercial opportunities offered by the moon.

It believes that eventually there will be a market for commercial cargo trips to the lunar surface.

"As Nasa pursues an ambitious plan for humans to explore an asteroid and Mars, US industry will create opportunities for Nasa to advance new technologies on the moon," said Greg Williams, Nasa's deputy associate administrator for the Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate.

But, but ... the Obama Administration (via its NASA Administrator) thinks that its top priority is outreach to the Muslim community including recognition of their "historic contributions to science." [/sarcasm off]

If you never knew that this Obama-appointed clown, who has been running NASA for five years, said this, then you have to read it to believe it.

Bolden’s dream is of sending a Muslim to the ISS so we can have the first act of terrorism in space.

How much will the Chinese charge us to put our rovers on their rockets?

I am all for this as long as they build a spacecraft big enough to get Obama and all his czars and department heads (wouldnt want to leave Eric the Holder behind) inside and there is only enough fuel for a one-way trip

I guess NASA is reacting to China going to the moon. Maybe someone finally realized we should have done something.

Yeah, after Obama pushed for NASA to cancel future manned missions to the Moon.

I’ve learned to respond more directly to these agencies. Just yesterday I got a retweet from the New Horizons (Pluto probe) twitter feed when I said NASA should back off the earth sciences and get back to prospecting and pathfinding.

Well....that means that we can send Obama (and the First Ingrate) to the moon. One way, of course.

Not one man involved.

We just need to wait for the Chinese to finish ramping up their moonshots.

I don't think that rocket technology has advanced enough to build a vehicle with the lift capacity to boost Moochie into orbit.

On the other hand, just give the Big Choomer a bag of Maui Wowie and he will fly to the moon and back on a unicorn.

Not to be cynical or anything, but this sounds like a scheme to corral American private industry and make sure they either never get to the moon or only under the most stringent ideological bases and paying proper respect to the latest PC requirements.

I work at NASA. This guy is a walking, talking leadership vacuum. If he had any leadership qualities, he checked them at the door when Obama appointed him. No original thoughts, no original ideas, no confidence, nothing.

Didn't everyone mock Newt Gingrich for suggesting during the primaries that we should go back to the moon?

One day Obama will not be President—and his leacholocracy will be at an end. Yes, a new birth of freedom will come and with it a renewed interest in space. I pray each day that this wonderful day will come—its like the Year of Juliblo!
