Microaggression: Never heard of it? You may be guilty of it.
The National Review ^ | February 3, 2014 | Alec Torres

As a group of students begins studying for a calculus exam, a white student turns to an Asian peer and says, “Hey, would you mind helping me solve this problem? It’s really difficult, but you can probably do it.” The Asian student agrees to help, but for some reason feels uncomfortable with the way the question was asked.

Is the Asian student being oversensitive? Was the white student subtly and subconsciously displaying racial prejudice against Asians? Could both be true?

According to Dr. Derald Sue, a professor of psychology at Columbia University, the Asian student may have been the victim of a microaggression — an “everyday slight, putdown, indignity, or invalidation unintentionally directed toward a marginalized group.”

Sue has been researching microaggression since 2007 and has written two books on the subject. According to him, the person delivering the microaggression often does not know he’s doing it and might even think he is complimenting the other individual....

So it’s a slur to think someone is smarter than you?

No kidding. How is acknowledging the Asian student’s possible math prowess a “put down”? Haven’t we been told a hundred times they are smarter than we are?
But notice here yet another way to attack conservatives over racism?

I am in the store and I can't reach the item on the top shelf. If I ask the taller person to help me then I am guilty of microaggression?

Really?

I am the victim of this kind of aggression every day of my life.

If they aren’t prejudicially deferring to my startling good looks, then they are in seeming awe of my intelligence.

They must be really bad people to think of me as they do, what’s next, admiring my athleticism?

It’s a nightmare I tell you.

The racism of low expectations, the racism of high expectations. Now all we need is the racism of mediocrity.

Sure. Happens all the time. You ignore it, because it was unintentional after all. If it was intentional, you reply with a humorous dig that makes your point but lets you both laugh it off.

A good sense of humor goes a long way. Not being too sensitive and full of yourself goes a long way too. Not making everything about you when it isn’t really about you also goes a long way.

“...directed toward a marginalized group.”

Notice this...it means that when those Asian students used to ask for my help, I didn’t get to be a victim....but...

You know those people who are not offensive is any way? God, I hate those people!! They should apologize to me, and probably pay me some restitution.

Read the entire article. It’s terrifying. They are laying the groundwork for controlling every word you utter to prevent “Micro aggression”. It is yet another way of denying Americans their free speech rights.
