Budget cuts aimed at weaning Americans off of public assistance may make the start of 2014 lean for many African-Americans.
Last month, after much debate, Congress began implementing it’s budget cut plan to reduce funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program otherwise known as SNAP. The program provides monetary help for families in poverty and alleviates food insecurity. SNAP, formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, is used by approximately 47 million Americans. But with funding reductions and bans for convicted felons many people wonder how Americans will finally be able to climb out of poverty.
Who needs SNAP?
The Recovery Act of 2009 (otherwise known as the Stimulus Bill) provided a temporary boost to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Then, Congress voted in 2010 to cut $11 billion in funding for the SNAP Benefits. The first fiscal year cut occurred last month, subtracting $5 billion from the program. There will be two more fiscal year cuts to come before September 2014. Approximately one in four African-American households will be affected by the cuts in the SNAP program. That means, a family of four would lose $36 a month in assistance.
Food assistance creates a healthier environment and helps many families climb out of poverty. Research has shown that food stamps help to stabilize the economy during this crisis by allowing families to use money that would be earmarked for food to go to other expenses such as rent and utilities. Eighty-three percent of SNAP benefits go to households with children, elderly persons, or disabled persons. Children who live in households that receive food assistance were less likely to suffer from chronic illnesses or be at risk for developmental delays....

But I thought there was more white people on welfare than blacks
I’ve seen VERY few African-American women on food stamps who couldn’t stand to lose 25-100 lbs.
Think of the reduction as a health incentive.

On more than one occasion I’ve seen welfare queens buy a entire birthday party’s work of food (cake, paper goods, chips, etc.) on food stamps.
Funny. Just last night some mexiclown who dressed like she came from the office used her EBT card to hold up the line because she was bitching about the “free” paper bags in CA only for EBT users while the other paying chumps had to pay 10 cents...and she still argued for 5 more minutes.
not to mention murderers and sex offenders

Remember the 1992 riots, and the post offices put out of commission. They had to move the welfare checks to the other post officers quickly, before even more of ‘all hell’ could break loose.
Remember those welfare women standing in line for their checks. I’ve seen smaller cows. It was one of the most surreal things I’ve ever seen.
Poor people, so over-stuffed with food, they could hardly walk.

poverty and hunger are mostly a choice in this country. Local resources such as food banks, churches, and civic groups are always looking for hungry people to feed.
Food stamps are enabling people to be drug addicted, lazy, or just generally dysfunctional.
I know that they say that it's for the kids, but the kids get left out anyway because the parents probably don't know how to cook or prefer to pick up a happy meal for the kids, because the parents are so "busy".
If you know where to look, you can purchase the food stamp cards in many grocery store parking lots or on a side street near a liquor store.
Perhaps as a raw number, since there are 5 times as many whites as blacks, but the percentages in most places of the country are probably skewed black.
If you’re able bodied, you shouldn’t be allowed to be on welfare.
Drug testing for all parasites...no exceptions.
Extra food stamps for ratting out drug-dealers living with their gimme-girl friends.

True, and when I stand behind someone in the grocery line who pays with their card, I figure OK, they may legitimately need the help. But then when I see them load up a newer car or SUV and then pull over to the discount cigarette store or head into the bar, the charitable feeling kinda disappears.
Numerically.
However as a percentage statistically if you are black you are more likely to be on welfare then if you are white.
And there are places that are mostly white but are welfare enclaves. Not surprising they have exactly the same values as black welfare enclaves.
Nobody get married, they may go to school but the ones who study get the stuffing beaten out of them, most of the males have spent some time in jail and they use and sell a rather astonishing number of mind altering substances.
A 1% cut.
They are doomed...
