HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Huntsville Police said the woman who shot a man to death acted in self-defense.
Investigators said Salena Turner was in fear for her life and shot Timothy Derrick in self defense the night of Jan. 24, based on evidence collected and discussed between police and the district attorney's office.
What little is known on the case is that the gal and this guy knew each other in some way. Some argument erupted, and he must have made a threat...not realizing that she had a weapon and would use it.
Now, not to stir this pot much....but it’s the fifth murder since 1 January, and if the trend holds...Huntsville would be the same as most third-world countries like Ecuador or Peru for murders and shootings.
Last year, there was a big home invasion episode....where someone finally drew a weapon on the invaders, and established authority. There’s been several hundred episodes (murders, assaults, home invasion, etc) over the past five years in the region. It would be safe to assume that roughly eighty percent of the adult population in the area now has a weapon and will take down a guy who isn’t respecting authority or the law. It’s an established thing now...that grand juries aren’t going to do much except ask your account of the episode, and just accept it.
Sad to say...this will start to clear issues, but it’s not the way that you’d like.
It would help to be more specific. A Google of “Huntsville home invasion” returns several pages of unique results. Apparently it is something of a team sport there.
