I guess suddenly lurching right on your Facebook page is not working out so well Mitch. The people of Kentucky are not morons…

(Rasmussen) Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell runs dead even with Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes in Rasmussen Reports’ first look at the 2014 U.S. Senate race in Kentucky. But McConnell’s GOP primary rival Matt Bevin leads Grimes by six points. A new statewide telephone survey of Likely Kentucky Voters finds that McConnell and Grimes earn 42% support each. Six percent (6%) like some other candidate in the race, and 10% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.) (Want a free daily e-mail update? If it’s in the news, it’s in our polls). Rasmussen Reports updates are also available on Twitter or Facebook. The survey of 500 Likely Voters in Kentucky was conducted on January 29-30, 2014 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. There is hope. If this is close to the truth at this stage of the game, there is hope.

Hopefully, several of these old timers may be thinking seriously about retirement before the election cycle.

It would be rather embarrassing to be defeated, especially when one is the House Speaker or Minority Leader or Lindsey Graham or Mary Landrieu or Mark Pryor or John Cornyn, etc...

Hopefully several of the old timers may be thinking seriously about retirement before the election cycle.

That can get manipulative. If the incumbant gets the nomination, then withdraws before the election, you might get a situation where the party leadership in that district gets to choose someone the Chamber of Commerce loves. It can be a con to get a favored candidate who would never survive a primary.

The headline is deceiving. According to what I’ve read Bevin is still down double digits in the primary race. That statistic makes this poll of no value. Bevins has to be on the ticket to beat Grimes.

Bear in mind RATS may be lying to pollsters, posing as likely-voting Rs in order to depress the TEA ground game.
