PHILADELPHIA Five of the Democrats running for governor said they all want to impose a tax on natural-gas production. They promised to raise the state minimum wage, increase spending on education, and slam shut the "Delaware loophole," a quirk of tax law that allows corporations to avoid paying taxes in Pennsylvania.
There was broad agreement on most policy issues when U.S. Rep. Allyson Y. Schwartz, Tom Wolf, Katie McGinty, John Hanger, and Jo Ellen Litz met Tuesday at WHYY in a forum sponsored by the public media organization and the Philadelphia Business Journal. Two other candidates did not attend.
Closing the "Delaware loophole," which allows Pennsylvania corporations to avoid paying state taxes by attributing income to a Delaware subsidiary, would bring in $500 million a year, Schwartz said.
"I have a number that will surprise and dismay Pennsylvanians: 70 percent of corporations do not pay corporate income tax in Pennsylvania," she said.

30 years ago, these people wouldn’t even think of running under such stupid positions.
Tax natural gas production???? Really????
Pa just saw a big gasoline increase. Deisel up to $ 4.99 locally and I saw it for $ 3.99 in WV. WV yesterday I got a gallon of gas for $ 3.29 (they used to be a nickel higher than PA) Now locally in PA lowest I have seen for a gallon is $ 3.49. Gubment is determined to ruin PA.
Tax the natural gas and the only ones who pays that tax is the taxpayer / user. The gas utility will just pass it along.
These Democrats all agree to Suppress their state’s economies and continue to do damage to the working environment (IE eliminate or reduce job creation or to eliminate or reduce jobs).
Whatever you subsidize, you get more of. Whatever you tax, you get less of...............
Companies don’t pay taxes. Their customers do......................
Yeah and that’s thanks to our republican governor! Sort of hard to argue that these dems are a bad choice when the republican has already raised our taxes.
Such a simple concept no one seems to comprehend.
Oh, they comprehend it, alright. They comprehend it very well................
If they really want to close the Delaware loophole. just station state troopers on I-95 and catch the shoppers shopping in sales tax-free Delaware.
Delaware can then retaliate by imposing a wage tax on PA people working in DE.
Back when I lived in the Keystone state, I made many a shopping trip to DE. Now that I live in Washington, I find my way to Portland, OR.
