FreedomWorks touts Greg Brannon as the next Ted Cruz or Rand Paul

RALEIGH — FreedomWorks, a national grassroots conservative organization, endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Greg Brannon on Tuesday night, comparing him to tea party figures Ted Cruz and Rand Paul.

FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe traveled to North Carolina for the event at the BBQ Lodge in Raleigh and introduced Brannon as the next U.S. senator from North Carolina.

“We’re definitely in it to win it, and I think if you want to win the general, you’re going to win it with a candidate who stands for something, that authentically believes in what he’s talking about,” Kibbe said. “If you look at the new stars of the Republican party – names like Ted Cruz and Mike Lee and Rand Paul – clearly Dr. Brannon is one of those guys. I think he’s the most competitive candidate in the general.”

Brannon hopes the endorsement will further spur interest in his underdog candidacy as he challenges House Speaker Thom Tillis, Charlotte pastor Mark Harris and other candidates for the Republican Party nomination. The winner of the May primary will face Democratic incumbent Senator Kay Hagan in November.

“We’ve done our work and they’ve done their due diligence, and the marriage is perfect. Again, the word I’m going to use is humbled,” Brannon said of the organization’s support.

The endorsement comes as Brannon faces tough headlines about allegations that he misled two people who invested in a technology company that he co-founded. The case is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Brannon, a self-identified tea party candidate and Cary OB-GYN, said the movement spurred by conservatives like Cruz, Paul and Mike Lee is bigger than his campaign. “I believe this movement is not just crossing North Carolina, it’s flying across our country,” he said.

Thank you for referencing that article cotton1706. Please bear in mind that the following snide question is directed as FreedomWorks and not at you.

And how did Mr. Brannon reply when FreedomWorks asked him if he will respect Congress’s constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers if elected?

With the front-runner being uninspiring, though acceptable, it’s natural that conservatives are turning to Dr. Bannon. If Bannon wants any chance of winning, he needs to keep the focus squarely on Obamacare.

The "Noise and Disturber" over-estimates its influence, as usual. That's the first I've heard about these "headlines," and I follow this race very closely. This Primary, not decided until May, is going to be very nasty. The present state House Speaker is the eGOP, and consultant's choice, the choice of the gangsters who get paid whether they win or lose. He's not a bad guy, personally. Publicly, at least, Speaker Tillis is a very personable, "pragmatic" fellow, who "might" make an impressive Conservative U.S. Senator. Defeating Her Accidency, Kay Hagan, is absolutely mandatory. But we don't need "might be," we need bonafides.

So far, Tillis is the only one with "some," but he hasn't closed the deal. Another term in the Speaker's chair would have helped.

I like what I've heard about Brannon, too, and the endorsement by FreedomWorks carries some weight, but I wouldn't know him from Adam if her passed me on the street.

There are a host of other, perhaps some "ringers," popping up before filing deadline.

I wonder what litmus test should apply...

Any candidate who is like Ted Cruz, and a few others, has my support.

But Rand Paul, not so much, and here is but one reason why:
