Flex alert: Californians urged to conserve electricity Thursday

California residents are urged to conserve electricity Thursday, as the cold snap in much of the United States is creating a shortage of natural gas.

"A shortage of natural gas triggered by extreme cold weather in much of the United States and Canada is impacting fuel supplies to Southern (California) power plants and reducing electricity generation," the California IndependentSystem Operator Corporation (ISO), said in a statement issuing a statewide Flex Alert. "While the natural gas shortage is only impacting Southern California power plants, statewide electricity and gas conservation will help free up bothelectricity and gas supplies for Southern Californians."

Hey Southern California you may want to rethink that shutting down of the San Onofre nuclear plant.

I feel like I woke up in the 1970’s. We have a bad economy, an inept president, natural gas shortages, a bitter winter and Jerry Brown as California governor. The only difference, the music generally sucks today. B-P

Maybe they could burn some of that dead wood laying around in their wood stoves instead of letting it pile up and burn up ten thousand acres at a time in the summer?

Oh yeah........That's right! They have banned wood stoves in favor of torching the state each year in the summer.

We lost power for 8 or 9 hours a few days back too. We never did get an explanation for it.

They’re getting us conditioned to accept the new normal - no water and frequent blackouts.

“rethink that shutting down of the San Onofre nuclear plant.”
...and rethink making everyone else have to close their coal plants and use natural gas too- that’s more competition to drive the price up!

The spot price of natural gas was $36.26 per million British thermal units on Wednesday.

You are actually willing to announce to the world that you regard the health and safety of your family at a temp of 2 degrees as more important than the brutal murder of innocent TREES. You should be ashamed.
Anyone who agrees with the above...seek help ASAP

I could conserve electricity and partially heat my house with my fireplace, but it’s probably a spare the air day...
