The Summary Version is: IOWA Police execute a search warrant based on suspected credit card fraud – However, they smashed down the door in a “no-knock” raid replete with full battle armor. Then the police tried to destroy the CCTV system which was recording their behavior.
When questioned about the ridiculously excessive “use of force” things get worse because the police justify the execution of the warrant, the extreme measures invoked, based around the principle the occupant was a legally registered gun owner and therefore represented a more significant risk to them. <—- Think about that.
Personally I have come to the difficult determination that the police are now a danger to us. We have as much likelihood to be victimized by paid law enforcement as we do criminals. It has taken me several years to accept this ‘new-normal’ reality with police militarization; however, there is simply too much empirical evidence to dismiss the obvious. This story is only atypical in that the owner had CCTV systems to document the reality.

Don’t know. It’s not a question of running the day care center, it’s living where a day care center is being run. Likewise if they’re prohibited from owning/accessing firearms, they’re not allowed to live someplace where they can access any. At least usually. I assume Iowa does it that way.

It's a lot worse now. The punks calling cops "pigs" back then were angry that cops prevented them from committing the mayhem they wanted to do. Cops today (I refuse to call them "pigs") are unionized thugs who's entire life revolves around the concept of "getting home safe after work." This means they'll go out of their way to shake down relatively peaceful people, while making every effort to not see violent thugs beating and killing people, so as to avoid danger to themselves.
They have become "risk-averse." When in doubt, shoot the dog.
Add to that the abuse of steroids and excessive hardware like MRAPs, and you have a very dangerous gang, all with the approval of the State.
So, is he or is he not a ‘prohibited person’ under the law?
Well, 2002 was after the Lautenberg Amendment became the law of the land, so to speak, so yes, he was prohibited from touching a gun. "Domestic Assault," no matter how you define it, is covered in the law. A continuing travesty.
In the context of this story, he should not be prosecuted because the warrant being served had nothing to do with this guy touching a firearm.
The reason for the raid was the suspects were ID’d for using one stolen credit card.
Yeah, credit card, like when the cops aren’t interested when YOUR credit card is stolen, but as it turns out, this credit card was stolen from a POLICE TRAINER, so it was a fun time to use all that DHS military equipment for the first time. Not likely to get much other practice in the upscale neighborhoods that are Ankeny, Iowa.
Seems like an unusual crime to precipitate a no-knock raid.
Ankeny, Iowa, is a place “where the cops don’t need you and, man, they expect the same”.
Credit card thieves were dumb enough to use the card locally and in person to where it was stolen, giving bored aspiring storm troopers a chance to practice, and to avenge one of their own.
If the credit card was yours or mine, they’d have told you to fill out a report and gone back to donut munching and steroids.
While FReepers compete to say the most inflammatory things about “muzzies” and illegal immigrants they can get away with, it’s time to ask:
1. Who is molesting us at the airport?
2. Who is busting down our doors and shooting our pets?
3. Who is spying on everything we say & do?

I remember when America wasn’t evil. But, maybe I was naïve.
No. When the cops said they "knew there were guns in the house" they meant that one of the people in the house had a concealed carry permit. The permit holder was not arrested and once he found out it was the cops that busted the door in, re-holstered his gun.
To my knowledge (living in Des Moines and following this) that is the only "gun" that was in the house.
Was this a daycare center, as someone claimed upthread?
I don’t think that had been confirmed but one of the owners of the house said one of the reasons for the exterior cameras was that there had been a lot of vandalism in the area.
Yes, I know that. It was a rhetorical question posed to the guy I was talking to who doesn’t seem to know anything about the story.
Their attempt to destroy the cameras that were recording their behavior is an
ADMISSION OF GUILT
on the part of the police. They intended to do something illegal or they wouldn’t have gone for the cameras.
