Deportation in hit-and-run tragedy would be a mistake: Editorial
OregonLive ^ | February 07, 2014 | The Oregonian Editorial Board

Forest Grove resident Cinthya Garcia-Cisneros had the dubious distinction this week of appearing, in the form of a linked story, on the Drudge Report, a popular web site that marries conservative values with tabloid sensibilities. The link’s headline: “OBAMA DREAMER FACES DEPORTATION AFTER KILLING TWO IN HIT-AND-RUN …”

You need no imagination whatsoever to track the narrative shouted here in 11 words: This is what comes of the president’s 2012 decision to allow immigrants brought to this country illegally as children to apply for relief from deportation. Garcia-Cisneros and others who participate in the Deferred Action for Childhood (DACA) program are commonly referred to as “dreamers,” a reference to the mawkish acronym of failed legislation that called for similar leniency. Using the term in this context is a way of mocking the notion that protected immigrants possess admirable motivations rather than a base desire to cause mayhem. It’s also a way of suggesting that Obama and others were dreaming if they expected a different outcome.

When liberals want to “prove” a point about why we should be coerced into providing money for welfare, food stamps, free education, amnesty, foreign aid, health care, needle exchange programs, AIDS research, housing subsidies, and a host of other things that we are forced to pay for against our will, they trot out one isolated bleeding heart story to demonstrate the good that they intend/pretend for the program. We are supposed to happily fork over more and more of our hard-earned money because they are able to cite one example of a poor child who grew up to be a neurosurgeon or whatever. But when the shoe is on the other foot, and someone points out a negative example, they cry “foul.”

If both sides were to sit down honestly and look at the real costs and the real results of these programs, most or all of them would be canceled. “If just one life is saved, it is worth it” is a boatload of nonsense unless they are also willing to accept the argument that “If just one life is lost it is not worth it.”

I agree. Incarceration then deportation.

I think they should tie the entire Oregonian Editorial Board to the hood of her car and then let her go.

Police tied Garcia-Cisneros to the crash through a neighbor’s tip.

If not for the tip, she would not have come forward on her own ...

And, she gets probation while the boyfriend gets 13 months in prison [for driving the car thru the car wash]?

If we could deport them and keep them deported, that would probably be sufficient.

No sense housing and feeding them, kick their sorry butts out and keep them out.

They do ‘time’ and the wags will just come back and say “You can’t deport him/her, they have already paid their debt to society”.

Surprised they haven’t tried the ‘you can’t send them back because of the children....’
on incarcerating people for say bank robbery - ‘you can’t send Jacejaxwinga to jail,
it isn’t ‘fair’ to the children, it isn’t the kids fault their parents are crooks and/or law breakers’ - then ‘reward’ them with all kinds of benefits and send them to college ALL FREE.

I dunno. But I’m in Oregon, and I say deportation is the least of what she deserves.

I guess there’s some hangup with Obama’s policy of not deporting people brought here as children.
