Boehner and Cantor Declare No Debt Ceiling Increase Without Obamacare Delay and Keystone Approval

With the President delaying, again, parts of Obamacare, House Republican Leader Eric Cantor and Speaker John Boehner have declared they will not raise the debt ceiling unless the President does two things: (1) delay Obamacare by a year and (2) approve the Keystone XL Pipeline.

In fact, Congressman Paul Ryan is standing shoulder to shoulder with them, telling Robert Costa, “Shutting down the government puts us on the wrong side. The fight is on the debt limit”. Further, the GOP won’t even bother fighting on a continuing resolution because they feel so strongly the debt ceiling is the path forward for a fight on Obamacare and the Keystone XL pipeline.

Senator John Cornyn has even gone so far as to say the GOP might need to shut down the government to force Barack Obama’s hand in debt ceiling negotiations. There’s just one major caveat to their plan.

But first, back to the House of Representatives. As Jonathan Strong notes in his article,

In exchange for a debt-ceiling increase, Cantor told colleagues, the GOP will issue a litany of demands, including a one-year delay of Obamacare, construction of the Keystone pipeline, an anti-regulatory bill called the REINS Act, and other spending reforms. The exact combination will be negotiated with President Obama and Reid.

According to Congressman Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina, who was in the meeting with Eric Cantor and John Boehner, “I liked everything I heard.”

Congressman Jim Jordan, asked if he liked the GOP strategy to fight on the debt ceiling, responded to National Review with “Heck yeah!”

Oh . . . what? What’s that you say? Oh. Sorry.

That was back last year. That was all back when the GOP did not want to fight on the continuing resolution. Sorry folks, my bad. The GOP in January of 2013 and again in September of 2013 said they were going to fight Obama using the debt ceiling, not the continuing resolution.

But now they want to fight on the continuing resolution, not the debt ceiling. Yes, in 2013, the GOP said they’d fight on the debt ceiling and not the continuing resolution. Here now in 2014, John Boehner and Eric Cantor are signaling they’ll pass a clean debt ceiling and not ask for anything at all — they’ll fight on the continuing resolution.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Sigh.

How many times are they going to yank the football away from themselves before Republican voters kick them to the curb?

Capitulate--it's what the GOP does.

When we all have the same gut reaction to these idiots, there must be a reason.

Yes, they are talking tough for their base, only to cave in later on, and say: “What could we do? We tried.”

Boehner and Cantor... ugh.
My senator, Portman is so bad, when he’s up in 2016, if he doesn’t get primaried, I’ll vote for the Democrat. Hey, if you’re going to govern like a Democrat, may as well have the real thing getting the blame.

Boehner wants to give Obama exactly what he wants in exchange for getting exactly what Obama wants.

Agreed, Portman is pretty much a toady to the left.

And, I don’t hold out a lot of hope that Boner and the GOPe crowd will stand resolute on this one, either.

Sad to watch, but the pubbies have already surrendered any hint of moral authority on the debt issue, and on immigration, Keystone, or any of the other progressive pogroms of Zero and 0bamunists.

“Boehner and Cantor... ugh.”

I don’t get nearly as many GOP fundraising letters as I used to, I suppose since I not only never donate to them but also send back a stinging note in their prepaid postage return envelope.

The most recent I did receive, however, was a “voter survey” under Boehner’s name. My suggestion sent back to them was for the resignations of Boehner, Cantor, McCarthy, and McMorris-Rodgers.

I realize it probably won’t be read, but it made me feel better and cost them some postage, a little less money that they can’t use to battle conservative primary opponents.

I understand the feeling, but please don’t vote democrat. Vote third party if you must, but voting democrat will only make the establishment believe they’re more popular than they are.

(1) delay Obamacare by a year

Designed to protect the democrats at election time- Obviously.

Since that is really what Boehner and Cantor are in reality. then it all makes sense.

Eric Cantor and Speaker John Boehner have declared they will not raise the debt ceiling unless the President does two things: (1) delay Obamacare by a year . . .

In other words, Boehner and Cantor want Obama to rule by executive fiat, unconstitutionally changing for the 28th time the law that Congress passed, and only Congress can change?

And this is what passes for leadership?

When Wisdom and Common sense left the Republican Party. Compromise took its place.

“And they cave in 3,2,1 or more likely 1.”

Yeah, the only thing you could safely bet money on is WHEN they will cave, not that they WON’T cave.

Here we go again. The GOP might just as well drop their pants and bend over right now. That’s where all this is going, AGAIN! My sister was out of work during Barry’s last mini government shutdown. She was highly pissed when the GOP capitulated to Barry and the ‘RATS.

“And this is what passes for leadership?”

House Republicans in primaries this year have to be made to answer whether they will vote for Boehner/Cantor/McCarthy/McMorris-Rogers, Ryan, or other squishes for House leadership positions next January.

Having “leaders” who run for the rear on every fight has got to be stopped.

GOP - STOP RIGHT THERE !

Stop trying to help Obama make the Obamacare debacle less painful.

Let it run its course.

Anything the GOP does to make this pile of Obama Dung less stinky will come back to haunt them.

A perfect illustration, a walk through history, showing how inept and feckless the GOP "leadership" is.

No wonder Senator Ted Cruz feels compelled to push for GAME CHANGERS mostly on his own.
