Nevada Officials Stop Defense of Same-Sex Marriage Law

The governor and attorney general of Nevada are withdrawing their defense of the state’s ban on same-sex marriage, marking the third time since last summer that state law-enforcement officials have publicly disavowed laws limiting marriage to one man and one woman.

In court papers filed late Monday with the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the Nevada Attorney General, Catherine Cortez Masto, said that neither she nor other state officials, including Gov. Brian Sandoval, a Republican, would continue to defend the state’s same-sex marriage law.

The briefing filed by Ms. Masto’s office said that as recently as late 2012, “the law regarding treatment of same-sex couples under traditional marriage laws was uncertain and open to interpretation.”

Since then, however, legal developments had persuaded state officials that the state’s law banning same-sex marriage was no longer defensible.

Caving in to pressure from above, obviously. I think we can start using the constitution as toilet paper now.

Just like in CA, the elected officials have veto power over a measure passed directly by the state voters.

Christians in Nevada, you need to seriously punish the politicians who are bowing their knees to the homosexual lobby. This is insane.

I know Nevada isn’t the most conservative state...but there are limits to morality, aren’t there?

We are going down a very, very steep slope.

Here’s the thing, its Hispanics in NV that keep Dems in power, and who saved Reid.

So much for them being so-cons.

I remember 3 years ago radio talk show host Jay Severin said that within 5 years gay marriage would effectively be the law of the land.

I thought he was way off.
He was by 2 years.

Failing to uphold the law....

State’s law on limiting marriage to one man and one woman is obscure and subject to interpretation....

THIS IS A COUP!

So, he's a Republican. So what?

What has the GOP EVER done, when in power, to make you believe they would stop same-sex "marriages" if they could?

Las Vegas is doing this so that they will attract gay couples to be married there along with all the loving straight couples that go to Las Vegas to get married.

It is nothing more than a ploy to make money off of state sanctioned sodomy.

Morality is just old-fashioned and mean to people. If you say anything to the contrary, then you are just a judgmental ol' bigot. That is the Progressive line, comrade.

Or they may have just figured since it’s the 9th. Circus, and Anthony Kennedy has already said you’re a bigot for having such a law, the jig is up. No point to throwing good money after bad. Occam’s razor.

So we see how the liberals will win 50 state homosexual marriage. By saying that they won’t defend a law in court, the plaintiffs win automatically. It doesn’t matter that voters voted in these laws, or that state legislatures voted for these laws. In this brave new world we live in, liberals or those afraid of homosexual activists, simply say a law is not to be defended, and the law which offends the liberals goes away.

I am stunned at this turn of events.

The same is going on in Virginia, of all places, thanks to Terry McAuliff (new Governor) and Mark Herring (new AG). The world is turned upside down.

So...a single elected bureaucrat can obviate the properly enacted law?

Oh, wait... I see.

Just taking a page from Zero’s playbook.

Perhaps, the governor and attorney general of Nevada need to take a remedial course in biology. Men and women are NOT interchangeable. Lawyers and lawyers in black robes cannot refute that men and women are different.

In Nevada prostitution is legal, the state makes all of its money off of gambling, you can get married in a drive-thru, and you’re worried about the handful of gays that want to get married?

Nevada will do anything to bring in money-the biggest industry is probably gambling, prostitution is big business in Reno, Las Vegas is a city where anything goes-this is just another thing for Nevada to profit from-they will probably have the quickie divorce office right next to the wedding chapel, staffed with lawyers...
