February 11, 2014 2:02 PM Democrats, Media Slam President Romney Over Health Care Law Changes

Worst abuse of executive power since Bush admin, Dems say.

By Charles C. W. Cooke

Washington D. C. — In a move certain to please his conservative supporters and infuriate his critics, President Romney announced this afternoon that his administration would make yet another change to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. In a terse release, posted without fanfare to the Department of Health and Human Services website, officials revealed that the law’s employer mandate would be suspended until 2016 for all businesses that employ between 50 and 99 people.

The move comes hot on the heels of news that the agency would not be enforcing the provisions in the law that require Americans to buy approved health insurance until after the next election. Now, as then, a simple explanation was forthcoming. “The president won,” a White House aide told National Review Online. “His disdain for the law was ratified by the people. Now he’s going to fundamentally transform it.”

“This is an utter disgrace,” griped Senator Chuck Schumer (D, N.Y). “This law was passed through Congress, signed by the previous president, and upheld by the Supreme Court.”

Schumer’s colleague, Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, described the Romney administration’s behavior as “the nuclear option.” “This abuse of executive discretion is beyond the pale,” Reid fumed. “I’m a lawyer, I know.” (For more information on the American system of government please take a look at Ezra Klein’s comprehensive explanatory primer, “Our Constitution in Exile: Why Everything President Romney Does Is Illegal,” over at VoxProg. Alternatively, consult Greg Sargent’s excellent Washington Post column, “Article I: A Love Story,” published January 20th, 2013.)

Others went further. “It’s. The. Law,” animated Democratic spokesman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz told reporters at a hastily assembled press conference in Miami, barking out each monosyllable and pounding her fist on her desk. “The terrorist, anarchist, hostage-taking neo-confederates in the Republican Party tried for years to delay this in the legislature and now, simply because they have a Senate they dislike, they are trying to do so with the executive branch. It’s a disgrace to the memory of our Founding Persons and it will not stand.”

Wasserman-Shultz’s claim of impropriety is a strong one, and it echoes Democratic complaints from last June, when President Romney delayed the income tax by two years to allow compliance deadlines to be met and to make sure that he was standing up for the middle class. George Washington University law professor and frequent critic of executive power, Jonathan Turley, broke through tears to tell National Review Online that the development was “merely the latest in an endless series of corruptions, and another devastating step on the road to monarchy.” “D’you know what?” Turley added, his voice cracking. “I’m thinking of moving to Cyprus.”

Despite the criticism, Republican strategists remained sanguine. “What you’re seeing here is the Democratic Party reaping the whirlwind,” a GOP operative explained on condition of anonymity. “This is the train that the last guy set in motion — and he was cheered on by politicians and journalists alike. Can they really complain now our guy has the reins? I think not.”

Many of the president’s backers concurred. “I reject the premise of the complaint,” the Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin wrote in her weekly column. “This is just anti-Mormon bias. They don’t see Mitt like I do.”

An unfortunately timed remark, made by Romney as he left a meeting at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello this morning, is certain to throw fuel on the fire. “That’s the good thing as president,” he was heard to joke, “I can do whatever I want.” At the time of writing, MSNBC was in the 67th day of a special series, “Is Mitt Romney the Most Monarchical President in American History?”

Satire it may be, but RINOmney would have probably not been much better with respect to health care.

I’m not ever again voting Republican until they put real conservatives up.

Sorry, not taking the standard, “But any Repub is better than a Dem-crat.” Not so. Not now. Not in this age. We have only one party...with the congresscritters (few exceptions noted) varying only in their amount of stink.

Everyone says it’s pointless to Impeach Obamugabe because of the Senate.

It’s not the Democrat Senators who control his conviction, its the damned media.

If they did their job, the democrats would have no choice but to convict.

But that won’t happen either.

the joke is on the GOP and America.

If Romney had not imposed RomneyCARE
.... there would be no ObamaCARE.
Socialized medicine (a failure)
had been rejected as HillaryCARE and laughed at.

the silence and uproar from the media and dems is deafening

Can you imagine the uproar that would have ensued after a Republican president and members of his party in Congress had suggested that when women lose their jobs, they're being freed to cook dinner for their children?

Haha. Very funny. But the truth of the matter is that the Romney/Ryan ticket WAS NOT going to overturn ObamaCare.

Those suck-up losers were on the record of stating they would leave this issue alone.

Maybe they knew then what we all know now? That FUBOCare will implode?

I doubt it.

Romney, despite being a RINO stated flatly the first day of his Presidency he would have granted all 50 states a waiver. Maybe I am naive but I believed him. Had this declaration received the attention it deserved it might have helped. This of course, is why it was mostly ignored.

The MSM media is neither [competent,] objective nor even honest.

Sorry, couldn't resist fixing that.
Modern "professional" newscritters and editors can't even handle homonyms and possessives...

What ever happened to What, when, where, and who?"

The silence from the MSM tells you all you need to know about their support of this dictatorial power grab.

The MSM is dead to me but then they’ve been dead to me since the 80s anyway.

Make no mistake about it; had Romney done to this country what Obama has, he (Romney)would have been impeached by now.

The “5” W’s (also Why) went out the window decades ago.

Today’s news items come from press releases faxed/emailed to the newsroom or from yahoo/youtube.

There is a movie from 1949, before Hollywood was totally taken over, The Red Menace, that centers around a commie cell recruiting unwitting dupes via its newspaper front operation. Journ-o-listas have taken that as a how-to for decades.

Keep talking about impeachment as often and as loud as possible and make the media defend his crimes.

Get people used to hearing the word. People are sicker of Obama than the media will ever tell us on their own.

This is how the Democrats do it, but they start out with a lie and push it until people believe it.

Mention the word “Romney” and some folks on this forum run around with their hair on fire. They don’t like Obama but they'll hate Romney till they die.

An exaggeration, but what follows is level truth:

Some folks on this forum understand that Romney represents a Trojan horse capable of far more debilitating injury to limited government conservatism, than any single Democrat.

On the other hand, strenuously object and fight to eliminate that Trojan horse, and some folks on this forum run around with their hair on fire. They think that conferring the label "Republican" on a functional leftist Democrat and then voting him into power, won't burn them to a crisp.
