Senate Conservatives Fund Wants Boehner to Resign

House Speaker John Boehner must be ousted, the Senate Conservatives Fund says.

The Washington Times reports the group, a super-PAC founded by former South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, plans to put the pressure on GOP lawmakers by keeping track of which ones back their efforts to boot the Ohio Republican.

The group's decision comes amid anger that GOP leaders are gearing up to support a bill increasing the nation’s borrowing limit without any givebacks.

In an email to supporters, reported by The Washington Post, the fund said, "Republicans are giving up because they know that winning is impossible when their leaders are determined to lose. These leaders have telegraphed weakness to the Democrats and sabotaged conservative efforts so many times that Republicans now have no leverage. There's only one solution.

"John Boehner must be replaced as Speaker of the House."

The email went on to say that Boehner "has chosen to ignore us and help President Obama enact his liberal agenda."

"Unless we install a new leader who will actually go on offense, Democrats will never fear us and we will never have any leverage," it continued.

Short of resignation I don’t think there is any way to remove Boehner. The question is, if Boehner is re-elected in the fall will he run for Speaker again in 2015? I’m sure the Dems would vote for him just to drive a wedge in the GOP.

“Short of resignation I don’t think there is any way to remove Boehner.”

From what I understand, 50 House members can call for a leadership election.

I thought that he effectively resigned a couple months ago, when he went off on Ted Cruz and the Tea Party.

Maybe the SENATE conservative fund should get a MAJORITY on their end before criticizing the HOUSE.

IIRC, there are 80+ members in the Tea Party Caucus. If they won't fight over this, why are they there?

Why exactly?? They formed to elect conservatives. Conservatives got Boehner the Speakership and he has ceded all power to Obama, the Senate and the democrats.

What are YOU doing to support conservatives for office??

BS. I sent Cruz up there to disrupt the GOP establishment, regardless of who holds the Senate.

And besides, it doesn't do much good to have a majority in the house if you are going to pass Nancy's legislation, with just 32 republicans.

Louie Gohmert for Speaker. Or like somebody said a year or more ago . . . you don’t have to be a Rep to be Speaker . .. Newt For Speaker. He knows how to play hard ball with the Dems. He could teach a few R’s a trick or two.

But we're not talking about the whip or the House Majority Leader. The speaker is elected by the House as a whole. Wouldn't the whole House have to vote to remove him?

The republicans in the House have been emasculated since the democrats forced Tom Delay’s resignation. They knew what they were doing. Remove the leadership and chaos results.

Yesterday the news was that the republicans in the House could not coalesce on any legislation. Well that was because the leadership was pushing something that wasn’t conservative. Push something conservative and the caucus will coalesce instantly (except for the Peter King types). Remember last year when Boeher was “with us” in the defund Obamacare strategy? The caucus was ready to lift him up and carry him around! But the powers that be stepped in and threw cold water on the House unity. And since, they have pushed one bill after another that splits the republican caucus, divide and conquer.

I don’t know the rules of the House. My understanding is that if 50 representative signed a petition for a new speaker, there would be a new election and somebody would have to get 218 votes. So the answer to your question is yes, but a new election could be called.
