In West Bank Settlements, Israeli Jobs Are Double-Edged Sword

MISHOR ADUMIM INDUSTRIAL ZONE, West Bank — The personal conflict that thousands of Palestinians face working for Israeli companies in the occupied West Bank is particularly stark for Hassan Jalaita, who for 18 years has repaired Israeli Army jeeps at the Zarfati garage here.

Those are the very same jeeps that confront Mr. Jalaita at the checkpoint he crosses each morning. The same ones that sweep through villages where his friends and relatives live. But those jeeps also help pay his $1,471 monthly salary at Zarfati, more than triple the minimum wage in Palestinian areas of the West Bank, where a 19 percent unemployment rate and lack of labor laws make finding a decent job difficult.

“I feel like I’m not a human being — we are serving the occupation,” said Mr. Jalaita, 47, a father of five, two of them university students. “I am forced to work here because I have a house, I have a family. Tomorrow, if there is another place to work, if there is work in Palestine, I will do it.”

One day one of these Arab workers is going to carry out a horrific massacre of Jewish management.

Israel should have annexed the ‘West Bank’ in 1967, razed Ramallah and immediately built large housing complexes there and in Hebron. But there were idiots running the show — instead handing back control of the Temple Mount to Muslim savages.

I think for the safety of the rest of the workers at his job, he needs to be fired immediately. This guy is a ticking terrorist time bomb.

Amazing. Palestinians hate the Jews and let their leaders use them as guinea pigs, yet will work for them instead of creating a free market on their own.

” Palestinians hate the Jews and let their leaders use them as guinea pigs, yet will work for them instead of creating a free market on their own.

Not really amazing in the fact that most arabs in Judea and Sumeria migrated to the area in the first place post-Zionism because the Jewish returnees paid a fair wage, did not discriminate against them like the Alawaites did, and were very welcoming.

It’s a bit like Mexican immigrants coming to the USA and demanding the USA turn into Mexico II.

Ca you imagine if Mexico acted like the Palestinians, shooting rockets and sending suicide bombers? But then, Democrats would probably join them and begin doing the same against America.

Remember well the lesson of the Gaza greenhouses, in 2005. American Jews paid $14 million to the evicted Israeli settlers, to provide a valuable export revenue maker, for the Palestinians (as it had for years, for Israel).

Upon takeover, the first thing the Palestinians did was ransack the place, stealing anything that wasn’t nailed down.

Not exactly the kind of folks who know how to function in their own best interest. It has been said “Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity”.

Tomorrow, if he is in Palestine, he will not have a job, maybe not a house or a family, either. There will even be a shortage of sand, not because Israelis are doing anything, or even because the leadership is corrupt, but because there is no real desire to create a Palestinian nation, just a ploy to destroy a Jewish nation.
