After G.O.P. Leaders Step In, Senate Votes to Raise Debt Ceiling
NY Times ^ | 2/12/14 | ASHLEY PARKER

Senate Republican leaders on Wednesday rescued a measure to raise the nation’s borrowing limit, overcoming a threatened filibuster from members of their own party and averting a potential shock to the economy.

A vote to cut off debate on the debt ceiling measure passed 67 to 31, after a dramatic scene on the floor when Republicans managed to muster 12 votes in support, clearing the way for final approval.

Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, and Senator John Cornyn of Texas, the Republican whip, waited nearly a half-hour as their Republican colleagues refused to vote to end debate on the bill. When it was clear that the debt ceiling increase would fail, they stepped forward in tandem to deliver the deciding votes. Other Republicans followed by changing their votes.

Well, where will the GOP take a stand and fight? On what issue, and under what circumstances?

What does the GOP stand for nowadays?

I hope the ‘rats make great hay of this, so that maybe some of their (the RINOs, I mean) low-info constituency might get a clue.

After the way that 98% of FR went for Mitt Romney, yes, that’s exactly what they think. With good reason.

Anyone still clinging to the delusion there is an opposition in DC is either to stupid to be involved in politics or working for the enemy.

Think of it this way:

Cruz forced McConnell and Cornyn to publicly back Reid and 0bamacare against the Republican Grass Roots.

Just like Boner in the House.

The “Leadership” is now in full revolt against their caucuses, constituents, and parties.

CRUZ WINS THE SET!

The only peaceful way this is going to end is a forced divestiture of fedgov assets to pay off the debt much as we did after the revolution. Wyoming, fiscally sound, could do a good job of running Yellowstone National Park. Maybe the same situation with Arizona and Grand Canyon, Utah and Zion's, etc.

Beyond that, who knows? There would be an awful lot of surplus office buildings, especially in DC. Maybe they can convert them into hotel rooms for people coming to see some of DC's jewels like the Smithsonian Museums.

We will find out soon how many engaged conservatives are left. I have my doubts because so many people are disgusted and just tune everything political out. Mitch and Cornyn and are counting on the uninformed Republican voter to carry their sorry behinds over the finish line regardless of how they govern in DC.

We did have a primary. I voted for Santorum. Then I voted for Romney vs Obama. So not voting would have been better? That’s crazy. Primaries are for trying to get the ideal candidate. When it comes down to a communist vs an American businessman and former governor, I take the latter. I didn’t have a choice, and not voting isn’t an option.
